Bloodstone was born a guardian in a plague clan, and fell ill almost instantaneously. She was poorly, and unable to fight off what were normal infections to plague dragons. Instead, her skin began to slough off, and she caught the gembond. Frightened, she fled her home clan. She met Jasper, another guardian, and they realised that they were each other's wards. Travelling together so closely, Jasper also caught the gembond, but he did not care, and the flesh eating disease did not seem keen to jump hosts.

They made their way to Tenderfur's clan, and she welcomed them openly. There were mages and medics and alchemists, and they helped to treat the gembond and Bloodstone's illness as best they could. When they had reached a point of relative wellness, it was suggested that they change to a species with a stronger immune system, and so both Bloodstone and Jasper became Wildclaws.

There were immediate noticeably changes. Bloodstone's skin, once almost completely rotted, became smoother. Her natural colour, a lovely turquoise, shone through still rough patches of oozing tissue. Though she must still be bandaged, and the loss of flesh on her snout is irreparable, Bloodstone is happy.
