Kerasos
Make a joyful noise
Kerasos is the Deputy Chief of Ember Clan, as well as its Personnel Officer and Head Diplomat. Acting as the eyes and ears of Captain Auberje, he is usually the first member of Ember Clan that newcomers meet. So long as one comes with peaceful intent, Kerasos greets visitors with warm welcome. Friends to the clan - whether new and old - are honoured guests and invited to join in the merrymaking.
Kerasos makes friends easily, and has a spread out social network within Wind Flight, and even some outside it. He is commonly the representative of Ember Clan if negotiations with other clans are needed. He enjoys these interactions, appreciating the opportunity to observe the diverse customs and traditions found among dragonkind.
Origins
I’m the luckiest guy I know because, twice in my life, I’ve belonged to an amazing family. The first time was with the clan I was born into. From when I was the tiniest wisp, I only knew happiness. I was the only child of my generation. I had parents who doted on me, and a loving community to watch over me. Growing up, I had many friends, both inside and outside of my clan. My days were spent composing songs and singing them into the wind.
Things changed when, one day, the clan elders felt called to use their skills in the service of the Windsinger. Inspired by their actions, one by one, the rest of the clan exalted themselves as well. I was thrilled to see my loved ones move on to such a lofty position, despite being sad to say goodbye. When the last of my family left, I was charged with at task: to become a great warrior to carry on the tradition of my clan. I felt that I must do so, to honour the clan warriors who had left. Yet I still had songs to sing, and a wide world to explore.
I decided to spend some time traveling, visiting friends from other clans. One day, I was travelling by the oceanside, along the edge of the Windswept Plateau. I was distracted by the composition of a new song, and I didn't notice how far I'd wandered from civilization. A group of bandits ambushed me. I fought back, but I was outnumbered. I might not have have made it, if not for the massive Guardian that swooped down from the skies to aid me in battle. Together, we fought the attackers off.
Auberje and I travelled together after that. I remember her being reserved initially, but gradually her curiosity about me drew us into long conversations. Being new to Wind flight, she had many questions about my life and what it was like to grow up on the cliffs. I shared my stories and my songs with her. I shared with her how the calling of my heart was to continue to write poetry and sing, even as I felt duty pulled me in another direction. Auberje listened with interest and I found that behind her silent exterior lies a thoughtful mind and a wise heart. It was she who counseled me to follow the call of my heart, knowing that I could not honour anybody, especially not my ancestors, if I was not my true self.
We became the best of friends. I felt safe with her, knowing that I could trust her judgement. When she told me that she wanted to found her own clan, it was natural that I should follow her. In time, I did become a strong warrior, although I still am not one for a soldier's disciplined life. I take my turn guarding our home, and the rest of my days are spent composing music and poetry.
The dragons that have joined Auberje and I, here in Ember Clan, have formed a new family, which brings me much joy. I am especially thankful for the presence of one particular dark and handsome dragon who has captivated my heart.
