It was her turn to patrol the eastern border of the clan’s territory, and Scully hated patrol duty. The area was marshy and her wings grew tired if she tried to fly the whole route. Even the sky was gloomy. She trudged through the mud, but stopped when something moved in the distance. Within seconds a strange dragon stood before her. He never bothered to introduce himself before a flood of questions poured out of his mouth. Something about strange creatures in the area. Scully quickly decided it would be best to just answer his questions and get him on his way, unfortunately things never go quite as planned.

Scully guided the strange dragon, Mulder, around her clan’s territory. She would soon be rid of him. Shortly before they reached the border, Mulder darted off after some creature in the trees. Scully tried to stop him, the woods could be dangerous to a stranger unfamiliar with their winding, mazelike paths. With a huff, Scully followed Mulder into the shadows. It wasn’t long before she caught up to him, but he had already lost track of whatever he was chasing. Mulder insisted on tracking the creature, and against her better judgement, Scully followed.

They wandered for what felt like hours before finally stumbling upon a cave Scully had never seen before. Again, Scully wanted to turn back, but something pushed her onward, and it wasn’t just Mulder. Curiosity? A sense of adventure, perhaps? Whatever it was, it was reckless, yet onward she went. They padded into the damp cave, and Scully shivered. Even Mulder stopped talking as they crept through the darkness. They stumbled into a room that was clearly not formed naturally, and suddenly, Scully heard a loud crash. Mulder was stammering out an apology for breaking the glass when Scully felt a slimy liquid run through her claws and squealed.

They took off running an instant later, and within minutes they managed to escape the cavern. Panting, Scully started to laugh. This was the craziest thing she’d ever done, and they only explored a cave! When she turned to Mulder, she saw something else in his place. When the creature looked up, it seemed more afraid of Scully than she was of it. She stepped forward and nearly lost her balance. Only then did she realize she’d changed. When the other creature laughed at her, she realized it was Mulder. What had they become? Bogsneaks, as they’d learn in the following weeks, but for now they were just different.

Scully tried to return to her clan, but a patrol wouldn’t let her through. It was almost funny. Though she never particularly liked any of her clanmates, where else could she go? With no home to return to, Scully decided to wander with Mulder. He seemed glad for the company, but Scully did not want to go on any more adventures. Eventually, they reached the Scarred Wasteland and came to join a clan called Matchmaker. The pair never left, and in time they became mates. Scully went on many more adventures with Mulder, and she never regretted a second.
