As BattleSong's second in command, Caspan spent most of his time leading his fellow wildclaw team on errands and battles. He wasn't always a dragon under the ridgeback's rule. Once Caspan was a lowly member of his clan, pushed around and picking at the leftovers. Discontent with that life, he left for whatever he might find outside. Several wildclaws found him, or he found them, and they formed a nomadic group.

While traveling to destinations unknown, Caspan and his family group unwittingly became tresspassors in BattleSong's territory. Instead of being run off, Caspan and his brood were welcomed into the clan by BattleSong, who saw promise in their wild ways. Caspan would die for his family and he would die for his leader, BattleSong. Though War spent most of her time far from the lives of the other clan members, Caspan got to see more of her through the fact that he was so close to BattleSong as his second in command.
