Ancient and stalwart he's walked many paths, always standing tall and weathering the ceaseless cycle of change and change again. Woodland has been felled once, twice, countless times yet he's found his victories in equal measure. He's been struck low by loss and grief and he's lost his purpose only to find it again. All things come in a cycle, and his is always rise chasing fall, regrowth after loss, always stronger and hardier for it in the end. He cannot count the hardships he's faced or the rallying and mending afterwards, rebuilding himself new again and again to adapt to the changing times. And just what keeps him going? What pushes him forward into the endless conflict and trepidation that only an aged warrior would know? Glory? Power? Faith. A belief and trust in the only constants in his life, his deity, his element. It is something he feels in his heart of hearts, a reason to fight, a reason to rise again and push on because anything less would never be enough to keep him standing in the face of such adversity. He doesn't speak much of his faith, he doesn't need to, not when he's surrounded himself with those who feel the same. But his roots do go deep all the same, all of his countless years have been spent in his birthplace and in service to his deity, his element, and his fellow flight members. Not once has he ever wavered from his path, not once has he ever failed his flight. Woodland is fearless but wise, unyielding in his beliefs and determined to protect them. He faithfully guards the one he believes to a be a prophet, a link to his deity, she who was birthed from the very roots of the Behemoth and leads all others who are just as faithful to the Gladekeeper. Is it faith or love that he feels for this one? He can't truly tell the difference anymore. It's as though all of Woodlands devotion to his deity and element have coalesced into this one dragon, this daughter of the Behemoth, this perfect being of nature. Woodland believes that to safeguard her is to safeguard the Viridian Labyrinth, for she is a caretaker to the jungle and a servant of the Gladekeeper, one of the chosen. Their purposes are the same and so he stays by her side, protecting the one who protects all. The Honorguard to the Leader, the Prophet, the true. And in some way he believes this undying devotion and servitude cleanses his own soul of any cracks and stains collected over the years, gives a divine purpose to the bloodshed and struggle. Someone must get their claws dirty to protect what they all cherish and that someone is he. That someone is Woodland. |
