Ressa
The Storyteller
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
"I have many tales for you all."
On the sun rise of December 23rd in Sornieth, my leader Clarity arranged for me to sent off and to be trained to as a fierce warrior in another clan, until I could come back and defend my clan efficiently. I found this peculiar and abrupt; I was a story teller, not a fighter. I however respect my leader's decisions, and believe she has the best judgment over us all. After Clarity looked around for a few days to find a clan with warriors willing to train me, she found one. They did not have a name, and seemed like an odd bunch. But I am not one to judge, most of my tales I tell to the hatchlings are odd, and I've learned over the years I've been alive that looks may be deceiving. I did not know this would be the beginning of the craziest day of my life, starting the morning of December 23rd, 2017.

I was telling stories to the newest hatchlings of the Heart of Decay. They were temporary residents, simply being held in the Heart of Decay for another clan to exalt them to their over reigning deity. The hatchlings were always fascinated by my legends and stories, and I found this was the best way to keep their attention and make sure they didn't destroy everything in the nursery. Once I told my final tale for the morning shift, I made sure the hatchlings got back to their beds in the nursery safely in time for their nap. Dragons needed energy to be strong, after all. As I settled the last hatchling in, my leader Clarity approached the entrance of the den, flapping her wings and hovering in the air so she could be eye level with me. I was about twice her size standing on my hind legs. Clarity, the unpigmented fae who I called my leader, then began to speak in her normal hushed, almost haunting voice.

"Greetings, Ressa. Your trainers have stated they will arrive about midday, where the sun is at the highest point in the sky. Please make sure to be outside of the den and watching for them, as Donovan and I have matters to attend to regarding a loner on our borders. Do you understand?" Clarity's red eyes against her unpigmented pelt always intimidated me, despite our height difference. But I gave a nod and a quite "Yessir" before she exited the den. I sat there in silence for several minutes, contemplating why I had been chosen to go train in a separate clan. Perhaps Clarity was low on warriors, or maybe.. Or.. Clarity saw something in me. I still don't know why she wanted me to be a warrior.

So the wait for midday to come began. Occasionally while in the nursery telling stories to the hatchlings who woke up half way through their naps, I glanced over to the exit of the den. The den was usually the brightest at midday, and soon the heat began to be easier to feel as the sunlight made it's way into the den. I would then look back and the hatchlings would look puzzled, urging me to continue on with my infamous stories. This process repeated for a couple of hours before I rose to my feet and told the hatchlings I had to leave. They all looked sad and yelled out pitifully, "Please come back soon! We'll miss your stories!" I remember smiling at them and feeling happiness in that moment before nodding and promising I would. I then exited the den, my purple eyes meeting the sky. The sun was definitely pretty high up there, I thought. I probably had a few minutes to spare.

I walked over to the entrance and sat on my haunches, waiting for a dragon or two to appear outside to retrieve me. I closed my eyes for a moment, trying to relax as the thought that I was about to go off to another clan to be trained made me a bit nervous. I had never fought before. Sure, I had a few skirmishes as a hatchling, but nothing ever serious. Being a storyteller meant you were pretty safe, unless you were spreading rumors about a dragon of course. But I'm not that kind of dragon, so why would I ever have the need to learn how to fight? As these thoughts cluttered my mind, I heard several rounds of breathing to my right. Opening my eyes, I turned my head and saw two dragons standing side by side. One was a scarred female guardian, held on a leash by the other dragon, who was a male guardian with a blue pelt and cream colored wings.

"Where might I find Ressa?" The male guardian breathed out, asking me. "That would be me." I replied with a soft smile. "Pleased to meet you. You're the one that'll be training me, right? It'll be an honour to work by your side." I was very intimidated by this dragon. Putting on a fearless smile was a difficult task. The guardian nodded, looking almost disgusted by my enthusiasm. At this point, I began to lower her head. I felt nothing more than PURE embarrassment.. When I looked back up, I heard a huff and a grunt as the male guardian tossed the female guardian forward through our camp. I turned my head over my shoulder and watched the dark guardian land. Now I was more nervous. This dragon was rude to his own clanmates, this suddenly seemed like a bad idea. But I couldn't back out now. Clarity was out of the camp and the payment had already been made. Reluctantly, after the guardian ushered me to follow him, I followed behind, occasionally glancing over to make sure he wasn't going to make any sudden movements.

This walking continued for several hours. It seemed their camp was stationed in one of the others clan's territories. The air began to get colder, which meant we were headed north. "May I ask what region we are headed to?" I questioned the guardian. He looked at me, puzzled that I was so curious. He then grunted again, mumbling a quiet answer. "We're heading to the Southern Icefield. Harsh conditions should motivate you to get your act together." I nodded briefly before looking away from his gaze once more. The icefield was a long way away; and with this attitude of his; it was going to be a long trip...

Eventually, we passed through the Windswept Plateau, reaching the border. The vast ocean with several pieces of icebergs littering it was far more beautiful than I could've ever imagined, being n the bone filled Scarred Wasteland. I smiled happily before looking at him. "Are we just gonna fly over from here?" The guardian had grew annoyed and swung his head towards me, his jaws parting in a swift way before he growled lowly as he spoke. "Do you have to question everything?! Flying over this is self explanatory! No, Ressa, We're gonna SWIM and get frozen under water!" I flinched as he yelled, looking down at the ground again. I then realized that training with these dragons isn't worth it.

"I want to go home.." I said to the dragon sternly. "You can continue from here. I'm. Going. Home." As I turned, the guardian's paw pressed against my spine, pressing me back down to the ground. "No. You're not going home. We've got too far and you could fetch my clan quite the pile of gems.. What the buyer does is up to them.." I tried to force myself up from underneath this dragons grasp, screeching wildly to gain the attention of any dragons nearby; but my attempts were to no avail. I felt the paw move up to my neck, and soon my breathing was constricted. The last thing I remember before falling unconscious was maniacal laughter that will haunt me for the rest of my days.

Upon awakening, I was met with this same laughter, except 20 times louder and coming from every direction. When I rose my head, I saw a mainly black fae, with the exception of an ivory-toned underbelly. Her eyes were those of a servant of the Icewarden. I saw another dragon standing beside her, a shadowing Skydancer with vibrant yellow eyes, eyes that still have not left my mind as I tell my tale.. The laughter turned into hushed whispers as I awakened, and soon were silenced when the fae spoke. "My my, an old wildclaw like you.. So very old, yet.. you still look as young as ever.. You will fetch me a fine price my dear, yes you will.. We'll ransom you back to your old clan.. Or.. even better, we'll pretend to and get your leader's hopes up, then snatch them away by raising the price!" The dragons around me began to roar with laughter again, and I felt helpless as I attempted to force myself to my feet. I found I had been chained to the ground by a black snake necklace around my neck, a magical bolt stapling the chain to the ground. I looked on in anger before screaming in frustration, thrashing my body wildly. The guardian from earlier stepped to my side and kicked my haunches, forcing me to the ground.
The fae flapped her wing outward, giggling softly before continuing. "Now, children, we can't let her clan come after her.. We're gonna have to make.. drastic changes before putting her up on the market.." Once the fae said this, the Skydancer emerged from the shadows, wielding a syringe in her jaws. My eyes widened in horror as she inched closer. I thrashed wildly and screeched as loudly as my sore throat would let me, dodging several strikes before the syringe pierced my neck. I collapsed to the ground, my body twitching.. This was.. an inhumance breed change.. Scrolls were usually used on dragons.. But this sick clan? They made an injection for a slow, painful process. Immediately, the changes began.

Starting with my right wing, the tips slowly stretched outward in agonizing pain as I cried out,
forming the fae wings. Tears uncontrollable rushed down my already damp cheeks. The changes then began to become more drastic, half of my face warping into that of a fae while the other side briefly remained Wildclaw, resulting in an oddly portioned head. After the first segment, the rest of the transformation was forgotten. I had gone in and out of consciousness during it. The final time I awoke, I was instead in a cage, a price tag hanging from my ear. I looked at it, and tears began to rush down my face once more as I read the bold font. Aser for 20,000 gems. They were selling me for their own profit. I became furious and started gnawing at the cage. I saw several other dragons for sale around me, but they didn't look nearly as infuriated. They all looked calm. But I.. I was livid. They had changed my name, and to the equivalent of my name, just spelled backwards with a missing s! I furiously tried to bite at the price tag, but found that my sharp-pointed teeth just went through it - a magical tag. One that could not be touched - like that of a ghost.

After realizing that I would not leave for several days or until someone bought me, my head slumped over.I reflected on these decisions, and began to realize I should've gone with my gut instinct. I was nervous from the start, I wanted to turn around; why didn't I?! These thoughts were all "what if I had done this or that?", but they were just alternate endings that were false for now.I closed my eyes, my now rather petite talons digging into the wood of the cage beneath me.I reflected for several more minutes, getting lost in my own world before my eyes shot open,
a gasp of hope escaping me. I thought that if I were put onto the auction house for all to see,
my clan leader may have been able to track me down and send a ransom-payer my way! Oh yes,
my hopes were suddenly brighter and my outlook on life suddenly became more optimistic. I sprang to my feet, standing on all fours. My eyes surveyed the area beyond my cage, praying to the Shadowbinder, hell, even the Plaguebringer that Clarity would find me. My muscles tensed as I began to feel several eyes upon me. I looked around and saw the eyes of various flights surrounding me from each angle, it must've been at least 10 other dragons! Nervous, I backed up to the wall of my cage, and soon the eyes representing plague emerged from the shadows - Clarity.

"Clarity!" I wailed out, running back to the front of the cage as the petite fae made her way to my cage. She looked concerned; a look I had never seen on her unpigmented face. "Are you okay?
Why do you look so worried? You'll be able to get me out of here and I'll come home!" I was overwhelmed with gratefulness, every word I could think of spewing out of my mouth in one swift blurb. Eventually, Clarity spoke softly, gesturing to my price tag. "That is a hefty bounty to pay for you. I needed to track you down." Clarity then looked closer at my id, mumbling to herself. "Nine, four, four, four, two." She then sighed before continuing. "Look. Me and a few other dragons have got together. We are going to find the clan that did this to you and make them pay." Clarity said confidently, a blood lusting spark appearing in her bright plague eyes. Her confidence made me far more comfortable than it should've. I then spoke in the same respectful tone I always had to her, despite being incredibly afraid for my life. "I trust your judgment, Clarity. But please be careful. The fae and guardian leading the clan that put me up for auction may be lurking. Make your plans quietly, and get rid of any suspicious dragons in your pact, no matter how "trustworthy" or "innocent" they may be. Do you understand me? I need to get home to the Heart of Decay." Clarity looked at me, seeming to be almost impressed before replying. "Your attitude has changed a bit with being cooped up in that cage. I like your thinking. We will get you out of there, I promise.. But right now, I need to leave. Assuming the fae is nearby, they find out we're taking you home. I'll be back." My legs gave out beneath me, resulting in me collapsing to the ground as Clarity walked away. The eyes I once saw looked as if they were providing pity for me as they slowly faded, vanishing into the darkness. I bowed my head once more, the tag dangling in front of my eyes. Angrily, my jaws tried to snap around it again, having momentairly forgot I couldn't bite it. I realized these attempts were futile and closed my eyes, curling up into a small ball on the floor. I slowly dozed off upon shutting my eyes.

I awoke later on to the sound of a few footsteps. When I opened my eyes, I saw the eyes surrounding me once more, but instead the dragon approaching me was not Clarity as promised.
It was another dragon, wielding a large pile of gems in their mouth. I looked behind them, and saw Clarity fluttering in the distance, a smile appearing on my face. "Oh, thank Gosh! Just put it on the podium over there and the cage will unlock!" The dragon that stood before me was mainly white with crimson red splashes scattered along his pelt. He was far larger than the cage, almost intimidating. While I was lost in thought as I gazed upon him, he gestured for me to be quiet. "The dragon may be upon us. We have to buy you in silence." I nodded, understanding his concern before watching as he went to place the gems on the podium to purchase me. As he did this, the price tag vanished from my ear and the podium was gone, but the cage didn't vanish - the sickos behind this had taken me off the AH just to taunt me along with the other dragons.

The imperial looked into my eyes, bewildered as his long ears swung back, seeming to pin against the sides of his head. He then made a realization and turned to all the other dragons. "Come out of the shadows, we need to devise a new plan." Several dragons emerged from these shadows, one of them standing out - it was the completely black fae with ice eyes that had permitted me to be transformed from a wildclaw into a fae. I then cried out, gaining the other dragons attention. "Wait! I must talk to this imperial alone for one moment." The dragons exchanged awkward glances, but had been told to respect Ressa's wishes, so they briefly backed up. I turned my head back to the imperial and spoke in a low voice that only he and I could hear. "I don't know your name, I don't know how to address you, but what I do know is that the fae that got me here is among you. She is the black fae with a white underbelly, her eyes blue, aligning themselves with the ice flight. You need to drive her out, make up a lie and say that getting me back is hopeless, something, ANYTHING." I was now panicked, nervous, on edge. To think that the dragon working with them and controlling how long I was in the Auction House was among them this entire time was horrifying. The imperial looked at her, giving her a calm nod as to not alarm the other members nearby. "I will see her out. Thank you for warning me. Please play along." The imperial turned back to the others, speaking loudly. "Ressa has requested that we disband, for fear that the cause of this is among us." The imperial's eyes lingered on the fae for a moment, and instantly I saw fear flood her eyes, her small body trembling; a fly in comparison to the bulky body the imperial had. I knew that the fae had caught on, and laughed quietly as the fae quickly flew off. Once out of earshot, the imperial turned back to the other dragons surrounding my cage, speaking.

"Alright. Listen to me. We are going to try to negotiate with that clan leader. If it gets out of hand, we will take a more.. direct approach - blackmail." A rumbling came from my cage, and soon another price tag showed up on my ear. I shook it eagerly, my eyes reading over the fine print. Aser for 2,000,000g. At that moment, I let out a cry of agony, bashing my paw against the ground helplessly. "There's no way you guys will be able to afford that..

Ressa's lore is a true story, just told from her POV and what I imagined would be the Sornieth equivalent. On December 23rd 2017, a scammer got a hold of my beloved 5-digit and bred changed her to a fae, and proceeded to change her name and tossed her up on the AH. She was taken on and off for several hours, her price fluctuating. This user taunted us, and soon a Discord formed to get the dragon back in my possession. A very kind user by the name of Evolve not only bought her for me, she changed her name and breed back and gave her back to me. Thank you Evolve, I will not forget.

Ressa's story is a warning to all of you to be CAUTIOUS when letting others hold your dragons. In my case, I was very fortunate to have someone buy the dragon back for me, but not all people are willing to do that, especially when they don't have to. Please, do your research on the person that is offering to level, that is offering to hold dragons. Do not trust new players with your dragons, and make sure they have a good history. My mistakes were not being cautious when giving out this valuable 5-digit and being tired when I allowed this person to order my dragon. I hope this serves to all people that not all people on FR are good and that caution should be taken so this doesn't happen to anyone again. Thank you all
