Toby is cheerful, obnoxiously so to some people, and tends to think he always has the advice everyone else is seeking. Admittedly, as a Tundra, his memories are fuzzy (some moreso than others; there's this weird years-long gap where basically all he can remember is the smell of gunpowder?) but he doesn't let that stop him. He sees himself as a bastion of common sense and helpfulness.
That said, he's tireless as a researcher and as one of the medics for the clan; his knowledge is vast, a combination of the practical and the esoteric, and he throws himself into his studies whenever possible -- which is a lot, as, though he's quite affable, he has this unfortunate tendency to lose loved ones and doesn't have much of a personal life. Despite that, and perhaps because the years have dulled his more painful memories, he's very outgoing and sociable, and quite interested in literature and the arts, although not as a creator. He has no idea what's up with that cyborg physicist Skydancer who can't meet his eye, or the crazy Mirror alchemist who bears some kind of grudge against them. Again, it does put him in mind of that weird years-long gap that smells like gunpowder. He's not really sure what that means.
STUDIES:
Medicine. He has a particular interest in limb and organ regeneration, and, more esoterically, in curing the Shade-touched, although thank goodness there haven't been many of those around for a long while.
MEMORY AID:
He diligently documents all of his research, but aside from that, if it's important he assumes either he'll remember it or someone else will be able to remind him. He also tends to make up mnemonics or put things to a tune if it's really important; this is how he manages to be a competent healer despite also being of a breed with an infamously terrible memory.
FAMILIAR:
A silver springbok named Manyara, who he has trained to go and fetch supplies for him when he's working in the alchemy lab. (Toby refuses to melt down familiars for goo; Ed usually does it when he's not around.) Sometimes they have staring contests, which Edwina terms "judgmental-offs."
