Biography

INTRO No one thinks much of the healer, in his hut by the well in the middle of the courtyard. No one can remember how he got to the castle, or even when. Luminance's humbleness and withdrawn nature are the cause of much underestimation and poor treatment from younger members of the court. Older ones are quick to warn their juniors about that kind of behaviour--the fae is, for some reason, a precious treasure of the queen's. His passiveness is not necessarily a sign of weakness--rather, one of knowledge. He knows what will happen to those who are too rough with him, and although he's the kind of dragon who would rather roll with the punches than fight back, the queen is an entirely different kind of being. Luminance knows too well what it's like to fight with all you have and lose--it's how he got here in the first place. His soft features and the continuous flow of his silks hide his incredible age. Of the dragons living in the castle with him, only one surpasses him in experience and time: the queen herself. They met when Luminance was still green, when deadly wounds mended themselves at his request--and never came back at his command. STORY He was the Nature flight's miracle worker, with eyes so green that he seemed to contain a forest in his body. His healing magic was so potent that he could make any living thing immortal, so that it would regenerate from fatal wounds and recover from supposedly terminal illnesses. One day, during their many petty arguments, the Gladekeeper and the Plaguebringer made a bet. They would each select a dragon. The Plaguebringer bragged that her champion could kill more dragons than the Gladekeeper's prodigy could heal. That midnight, when the first star shone, the dragons began their race: a green mirror with black wings raced across the world, striking down all the dragons she could find. Luminance, in the Viridian Labyrinth, healed those who were injured, and bestowed on them eternal life. The race ended faster than expected. Those dragons made immortal began to develop tumors where Luminance touched them, masses of flesh that grew and grew and did not die. Many of them died from their supposedly miraculous immortality, and although some others continued to live, the Gladekeeper lost the bet. The terms of their bet, previously hidden from the two dragons, were made public when they next met: the loser's selected champion would be transferred to the winner. Luminance's eyes have been in a permanent state of autumn ever since, his will barred from all magic. As a gift, the Plague god gave Luminance to Decay. He resisted at first, but eventually yielded to his fate as Decay's belonging. He now exists as the last relic from before the era of the Bone Castle. NOTES
