Naiad

Naiad remembers the feeling of drowning, the complete helplessness where they have accepted their death.

They also remember the touch of a hand underwater, the relief when lungs fill with air, the gratitude as they're held in someone's arms, the flicking of a tail smothered in shiny scales.

They know what it feels like to cry underwater and have their tears carried off by the waves.

They have forgotten the parents who left them to drown. Their new mother nursed him and covered them in scales. They spent hours with her searching for things glittering in the sand. They became part of the Maren tribe. They became best friends with their Maren companion, Hadrei, through their shared love of dressing up. Everyday on the way home from lessons they would play a game where they had to search for things underwater to put on. The one who ended up looking the best won. Unfortunately they couldn't decide who looked better so no one ended up winning.

After spending the early years of their life underwater, the news was broken to them that the Maren could no longer supply them with Oxygen anymore, they would have to take frequent breaks to the surface. After they almost drowned once, Naiad was forced to the surface. The whole Maren tribe accompanied them and sat on the beach by their side. Hadrei handed Naiad a flower wreath as a parting gift.

The gardener of a clan next to the sea met them by the ocean. Naiad struggled to say their name, not familiar with the way dragon words sounded but soon they managed to say, Variscite. Variscite has close ties with the Maren so often accompanies Naiad to visit their Maren family.

You will now find Naiad acting as the Maren Diplomat, spending a lot of time carrying messages between the two groups. In their spare time on land, they spend time with their three closest dragon friends, Howlite, Variscite and Nereid. However, whenever they can, be you will find them on the beach messing around with Hadrei, their mother, Xarin and father, Neios. They consider themself a Maren through and through.
