Expect she is not really a dragon. She is a shadeborn creature, a changeling. A shadow without her own identity. And thus, she has to steal it from someone else. And that someone was a pearlcatcher called Empress. Empress was a mage in training, a new member in the Guild. An unfortunate dragon who got lost deep in the ancient tunnels of Dragonhome on a mission. There, Empress came across something she could not name. And that something stole everything from her. Her image. Her memories. Her pearl and her last breath. The changeling was finally free from the tunnels. Finally had a new place and a new place to call her home. She kept studying under the Guild's Archmage, going to the school of necromancy. She also kept talking to her friends and living her life. And she likes this life. It is interesting and full of adventures. And no one is suspecting a thing. To them, she is Empress.
