Before the Long Road Hulrune was born a tundra dragon. But that was so long ago it hardly seems to matter. He has been many things since then. The course of his long life has seen him sample from many scintillating hues and perplexing shapes. He was a Ridgeback for a long stretch of his life. He had lovers and rivals (sometimes they could be one in the same). He has forgotten more stories than most dragons learn. He felt like he had traveled to nearly every corner of Sorneith, but knew of course, that could not be true. He could wander for six more lifetimes and still likely be unable to make that claim. His time along the great and terrible spires of the Arcanist's domain was his first adventure, and he had it alongside Endewyn. And when the clan moved to the crackling desert to bow under the thunderous direction of the Stormbringer, he went too. He was still young then. That is when Treme entered the scene and Hulrune saw very little of Endewyn after that, even after Treme claimed Lafitte as a mate instead of Endewyn. Hulrune was never particularly disposed to violence but fought the guardian on a fair number of occasions. It seemed the other dragon had it out for him particularly. In an effort to get back at Treme, Hulrune courted and charmed Lafitte. When Treme found out he quickly laid claim to the two resultant hatchlings. Curiously it would be the Ridgeback daughter that he came to favor. The Guardian boy did not remain with them, he whose wings and scales so closely resembled the hues and patterns of his father. But Treme did not allow that son to return to his father, either, but instead arranged for the child, nameless and unclaimed, to be given over as labor and service to the Stormcatcher. Hulrune flew into a rage because of this and attacked Treme outright, unable to stand with how his children had been used against him and treated. Treme, Lafitte and Hulrune's daughter departed the clan after that, heading to the strange heights of the Starfall Isle. It was perhaps an irony. But all in all, Hulrune was left quite brokenhearted by the whole affair. He had, afterall, not even won back Endewyn, and she too found her way to the Arcanist's side in time. Hulrune has not had any children of his own since then, even though he is and always has been very fond of children. He's not sure if he will again, but who knows what the future may bring. But that was all very long ago. Hulrune is no longer so young. Though his early life no doubt shaped the path of his later wanderings.

In the Wilds Hulrune was already ancient when he came to the Shrieking Wilds and found a home with the isolated, tight-knit clan there. Though he had early reservations, about them and about settling down at all, it didn't take him long to truly call it home. A proficient hunter, he took up the task of finding enough meat for his fellow members; which was never too difficult for him in the lush and abundant Shrieking Wilds. Regardless of this abundance, he hated the idea of waste. In addition to his hunting, he was a skilled craftsman and tanner, and he made use of every inch of his kills. Pelts could become clothes, rugs, blankets, walls, and more; teeth and bones being used for buttons, tools, or adornments — usually paired with string, beads, and paint. Most of his creations sold easily. The clan itself couldn't use all of them and they helped supplement their resources. One of the Mirror's favorite methods of relaxing is entertaining others with his many campfire stories; he is blessed by his wind nature with a knack for storytelling. The resident hatchlings are among his favorite fans. That said, nothing compared to his mates' company. When not around the younglings, Heulrune could often be found lounging in the forest with Turbulence and Peridot, enjoying their company, nature itself, and reading. Their polyamorous relationship is his first, but he wouldn't have it any other way. |

To See the Other Side He remained in the Shrieking Wilds for a very long time. Until passed from his home his mates and all the children. He could hear the winds pulling whispers and knew there was no more reason for him to stay. He gathered up his old bones and slipped away from the groves and gardens which had been his comfort for so long. He wasn't certain where it was he was going. He passed through the lush reaches of the Gladekeeper's domain. He passed through the strange and darkened forest of the Shadowbinder, filled with its old ruins and terrible wonders. He sat on the edge of the Wandering Contagion, where the rampant and mutagenetic ground warped the Shadowbinder's trees and turned the possessed shadows to life with grasping and twisting hunger. He smiled. For so long he had lived in the Gladekeeper's grace, perhaps now it would be good to pay visit and tribute to her sister. He was a mirror now, after all. He was familiar with the Scarred Wasteland, he knew. But that felt almost like a lifetime ago. He still knew his way around well enough and started walking once more. He made for the Wyrmwound, but went along a slow and meandering path, stopping frequently at outposts, camps, and settlements, both dragon, and beast. Not everyone was friendly, but it didn't bother him much. Those who were, he would sit with for a while, tell stories, and trade with the few goods he was able to travel with. Singing Blood Hulrune's meandering path brought him into the territory of the Clan of Singing Blood. From the local beast clan and unincorporated dragon clans in the area, he learned about them, the town at the heart of their territory, built into the Rotrock Cliffs, and of the mad Queen who ruled from the edge of the Wyrmwound.
