It all started with a promise. Such a small, fragile thing. An alliance that, for once, ignored borders and territories and united all that heard that whispered echo. Amidst the strife of existence and the shifting, churning battle between deities, acolytes, and priests, any excuse to celebrate was met with… well. Not exactly open arms. Muted enthusiasm? And a great deal of scepticism. A celebration. Of something that few remembered and even fewer experienced. The anniversary of that first, barely remembered... conversation. Of all things.
It was almost silly, all things considered. But it paved the way for tentative partnerships and even more unsteady unions. It forged the bonds of friendship. It paved the way to transcendence. And so, when the whispered call was heard, the answer echoed across the distance and planes. Yes. A hundred times yes. The festivities would proceed, despite the smothering hands poised to choke it out. Or perhaps because of it.

Then The Day arrived. There was a buzz in the air. A hum of magic. A flurry of motion. A gathering of numbers hitherto unforeseen. An exchange of culture. A slice of life spread out across a thousand plates. Hatchlings and younglings and ambassadors mingled. Found each other. Forged new alliances. Crossed borders. Letters and stories exchanged hands. Joy and hope abound. Such a small, fragile thing. It all started with a promise.
Scarlett was one of the many hatchlings born on The Day. She was welcomed to the world in a flurry of celebrations, constantly being whisked from one lair to the next. It was up to her to decide where she stayed; a big decision for a small dragon. And yet, the choice was obvious. As soon as she set foot on the sweet-smelling grass of the Windswept Plateau, the breeze sang her name. It was then that Scarlett knew where she truly belonged. |
