They come to the Icefields from the sea during the Week of the Long Night, with the moon blood-red and almost touching the earth, as close as it's ever been. Darkness spills across the snows like honey, sticking to the corners of the land.

It is alright. They are of the darkness too, after all.

They did not want to become a monster, but the monster was inside them all along. There was nothing to become. The darkness was always there, waiting only to be discovered. Embraced.

They did not want to embrace it, at first, fought against their own nature. But nature often perseveres beyond all else.

Snow crunches under their feet, crystals of ice hanging from the trees like mirrors, reflecting Kova in their full resplendence, dripping from their eyes like gold.

They are beautiful in the moonlight. The darkness is beautiful, too. It always has been.
