Biography

Levant
Veteran Mercenary
Lawful Neutral

PkKAmaj.png
Levant is naught but a mercenary, hired by the clan to protect them from attackers while they run their studies and experiments. When not fighting, he spends his time training, and when not training, he spends his time fighting. When not doing either of those things, he's training the less experienced members of the guard in physical combat, which is one of his favourite things to do, as it involves both fighting and training.

Levant's personality is as icy as his eyes suggest, rarely speaking to any members of the clan, and avoiding interaction with non-fighters whenever possible. Said interactions usually involve a wide variety of industrial-grade death glares. Even when he does need something, he'll simply point at what he wants done instead of asking. And if a dragon doesn't get the message, he'll grab them and chuck them at the problem until they do get it.

With might such as his, he often doesn't even need to bother with the sword. Instead he will just eviscerate lesser foes with his claws. Despite this, he isn't overconfident, and will bring his best against anyone he feels to be even the slightest threat.

Hiring a full-time mercenary is an expensive prospect, but the clan feels he is worth every coin of his salary. The fact that hiring him means they'll never have to fight against him is just an added bonus. And Levant does have his honour, so even if the enemy offers him more, he won't betray the clan. After all, if his only interest was the coin, he would have stayed with his old clan and never gotten into mercenary work.

However, not betraying the clan isn't the same thing as picking up side jobs, which Levant does all the time. Not for other clan members — Levant doesn't get paid extra for going on one of Solace's monster hunts. (He does those just for the fun of it.) For dragons of other clans, Levant's services can still be hired for the right price. As long as whatever you want him to fight is outside of the clearly and not at all arbitrarily and inadequately defined territory of Clan _______, his contract doesn't prevent him from working for others. Just make sure whatever you hire him for is big enough to satisfy his need for battle. A Levant who hasn't gotten his daily recommended intake of fighting isn't pleasant (or safe) to be around.

Even though the clan pays him quite a lot, Levant likes to try to negotiate an advance on his salary from the vault guard, Sirene. It's the sort of negotiation that looks like and is a demand in every way except that he leaves if you say no enough times. And when that doesn't work, occasionally he steals 'borrows'. Of course, being the only one who can match his physical strength, Sirene will have none of that. It's a miracle that they've managed to leave each other in one piece for so long.

Rumoured to have some connections to a far off mafia group...

It's true, Levant does have connections to the underworld. His father is the leader of a mafia group down near the Fortress of Ends, and Levant was to be his successor. Thus from the moment he hatched, Levant was raised to command others. Most thugs normally wouldn't take orders from a hatchling, but they knew better than to invoke the ridgeback's father's wrath. When he got slightly older, he was also raised to hold his family's power, to become unbeatable in a fight so that no dragon could hope to dethrone him.

While Levant did become an alarmingly powerful warrior, he never took interest in leading the clan. Running the mafia involved a lot of ordering others around, and not much in the way of getting one's own claws bloodied. And since bloodied claws are what Levant is all about, one day he upped and left.

Mercenary work would suit him better, and due to his unparalleled might would bring in nearly as much coin. His father disagreed, and set a couple of thugs to bring him back. Those thugs quickly found themselves in no shape to bring anybody anywhere, and so did the others that followed in their footsteps. Levant was kind enough to help send them on their way back to report to his father, or at least whatever chunks of them he deemed to still be recognizable. Eventually, anyone sent after Levant took it as their opportunity to have a nice (permanent) vacation, as far away from both Levant and his father as possible.

Levant eventually left the tundra in search of more work. Fighting hydras in the Molten Scar was fun, but didn't pay nearly enough for how repetitive it eventually became. Thus he decided to head to the Starfall Isles. He'd heard the mages there had a habit of summoning otherworldly horrors, each one more terrifying and indescribable than the last. It sounded like a fun time.

Tyrfin
Valiant Warrior
Lawful Neutral

PkKAmaj.png
Few have ever managed to impress Levant. Tyrfin did, but not because she managed to beat him in a spar. She lost horribly. Tossed facefirst into the dirt in seconds. But she got back up and challenged him again. Seven times in a row, until she could no longer stand. That was enough to impress the ridgeback, even if just a little bit.

Since then, she's been a member of the clan guard, teaching new warriors the basics of hand to claw combat. Her skills have grown as the skills of the clan's warriors have. You could bet on Tyrfin in a one-on-one duel against an imperial and not be totally out of your mind. She's just that good. Don't bet on her against Levant though. If there's somebody out there who can beat Levant in a fair fight, Clan _______ would prefer to never experience them.

Tyrfin has taught more to the clan than how to fight duels. She's also brought knowledge of harpy battle tactics and how to best counteract them. That's definitely treason against Talona. But so too is wanting to be stronger than Talona. So Tyrfin couldn't care less.

She prefers to avoid speaking about the wing she served in while still living with other harpies. There is much resentment between Tyrfin and those she once fought beside. The rest of them were focused solely on defending their homes from monster attacks, whereas Tyrfin just wanted to fight the biggest things around. Eventually, she was expelled from her home after being caught setting lures to attract the most dangerous monsters in the area.

She's almost more upset that she was kicked out before she got to fight the giant roc her bait lured in than she is about the whole banishment part.
