Biography

Gestalt
Poet

Gestalt is a poet. He spends most of his time looking out over the ocean, meditating on the world and penning his odes. But don't make fun of him for this, or you'll learn exactly why the pen is mightier than the sword.

How, you may ask?

You'll learn this lesson because Gestalt is a master of the ancient art of BATTLE POETRY, a form of warfare so powerful that nearly everybody who tried to learn it died in the attempt. In it, two competing poets duel to the death, each reciting poetry and the conviction behind their words bringing the poems to life. Then, while the manifestations of worldly beauty duke it out, the poets fight tooth and claw, each trying to prevent the other from reciting any more lines. The battle ends when the losing poet has their eyes opened to the true beauty of the world by the other, and transcends into a higher plane of existence.

Being the true master that he his, Gestalt has written samples of his poetry on his scales, allowing his mere presence to defeat a weaker poet.

He can often be found on the coast, by himself, watching the ocean's waves. That was where he found his pet comet, which appeared to be nothing but a glass ball until it began to glow and then promptly crashed into his face. Confronted with a bizarre animate object, Gestalt decided to do what he does best: compose poetry. Strangely, the comet seemed to be able to understand draconic, and was apparently quite flattered by Gestalt's work, as it's protected him ever since.

The comet has turned out to be quite needy, and will show its displeasure if ignored. By breaking things, of course. A few clan members have attempted to research it, wondering if it's perhaps powered by an enslaved dragon's soul. So far, all they've discovered is that it doesn't like being prodded at.

Gestalt has yet to come up with a name for the comet, which bothers the dragon quite a bit. To overcome this bout of writer's block, he asked some other dragons for help, but they were as useless as expected. Romerio claimed he'd learn the comet's true name by meeting it in glorious combat, while Kushiel had apparently already sewn it a tiny sailor's outfit. Gestalt left the fae without even bothering to ask for a name.

Gestalt doesn't bother with a quill; he just dips a claw in ink and gets to writing. This has the side effect of leaving inked clawmarks all around the lair, and Gestalt just leaves them for somebody (probably Silas) to clan up. It's nothing compared to the trails of ink the comet leaves when it tries to help Gestalt write, so the clan leader lets it slide.

While Gestalt believes he does his best work by his own volition, he is willing to compose by request of others. Often, this means he writes poems to commemorate events and heroes of foreign clans, though some of his fellow clan members make requests of him as well. Jenna's asked for more than a few about herself, while Marmorata has requested one that extols the accomplishments and history of the clan, so that she may carve it into a monument she's working on. Gestalt's still working on that one, as it turns out it's very difficult to find a rhyme for an actual blank space.

As a private project, Gestalt is trying to write a unique poem about each of his fellow clan members. He's only written a few so far, and his progress has been mostly limited by the fact that he'd be incredibly embarrassed if someone was to find the poem he'd written about them. Which is really messing with him, as he's never stumbled before when it comes to showing someone else his work. As far as Gestalt's concerned, embarrassment is the wrong emotion to be feeling here, and he'd like to feel a different one. He's asked his comet for a replacement, but none has been forthcoming.
