처음 커다란 나무가 시들기 시작했을 때, 모두 저주가 내릴 거라고 걱정했어
커다란 나무는 아주 오래 살아온 고목이었고 그런 나무가 죽는 건 결코 좋은 일이 아니었거든
그래서 너도 나도 나무를 살려보려고 애를 썼었지
하지만 주변을 정리하고, 좋은 비료를 주고, 영양제며 마법까지 동원해도
나무는 영 건강해질 기미를 보이질 않았어
시간이 흘러 애쓰던 자들도 하나 둘 포기하게 되었고, 그저 바라만 볼 수밖에 없었지
어느 겨울, 나무는 생명을 다하고 말았어
그리고 따뜻한 봄이 되자 그 뿌리에서 드리아스가 춤추듯 태어났지
고목처럼 길고 갈라진 몸은 우아했고 시든 잎처럼 바랜 날개는 활기찼어
고목이었지만, 고목이 아닌 드리아스는 아주 아름다워서 보는 자들을 행복하게 만들었지
드리아스는 지금도 자신이 태어난 시든 고목 사이에서 춤추고 있어
모두의 걱정과 달리 그 이름은 축복이 되었지
가끔 드리아스의 거주지 곁에서 축제를 벌이는 자들도 있다고 하니 구경 가보는 것도 좋을 거야
우리는 가을을 사랑하는 숲이 낳은 아이들이다. 나는 짝과 함께 우리를 잉태한 숲을 돌보기 위해 태어났다.
따뜻한 바람을 막아 잎을 물들이는 서리를 품었지만, 끊임없이 풍성한 열매를 맺게 도와주는 능력은 짝에게도 도움이 되었다. 덕분에 그를 풍족히 먹여 행복하지 않은가.
후에 태어났으나 내 그림자마저 보호하는 남편을 기억하며 평안하길 바라는 마음을 담아 새를 날린다.
