Biography

Shulk is one of the clans most dedicated scholars, he reads through several science books a week and keeps an entire bookshelf filled with just his personal research notes. Even tho he prefers to be alone while researching and are overly shy in most situations, he does greatly enjoy the company of his mate and close friends. Shulk is really kind and cares greatly for others even tho most dragons won't notice because of him being so shy.

He might seem like and ordinary Skydancer at fist glance but he has a special gift, one that lets him gaze into both the past and the future at will. Tho that future is not set in stone and might change a lot depending on others actions. This ability has proven useful in combat as Shulk is able know his opponents next move before it happens. He rarely uses it outside of combat because according to him a big part of life is to not know your own future.

Technology fascinates him a lot because of its versatility a skilled engineer can create something that replicates, manipulates or ever surpasses magic if desired. Shulk has spent countless hours reaching the subject, it is not uncommon to find him in his workshop carefully calculating something or sketching up a blueprint with hundreds of books as his only company as company.

At times Shulk might spend several days inside his workshop without leaving it even once. He has a tendency to completely forget everything else when working on something that excites him like a new prototype mechanism to put in his blade. Fortunately for him his mate Fiora makes sure that he doesn't starve to death by bringing him food now and then, as while working he often forgets to go and eat.

His blade is an extremely complicated piece of magical technology that he still to this day is trying to fully understand. He found the original rusted core mechanism on his travels and has been trying to replicate it ever since. Only recently has he been able to make an seemingly exact copy that he has built into his blade granting it huge magical power.
Shulk think that it was the original core that granted him the gift of foresight as his visions only started after he found the core, only recently he has figured out how to control his ability strangely enough at the same time as he figured out how to fully manipulate core's power. Even tho he knows how it works he still have no clue who made it or where the relic originally came from.

Shulk is far from the only one on the clan that are skilled with magical technology and it is a bit of a friendly competition going on between all of them in order to figure out who is the most knowledgeable and skilled on the subject. His greatest rivals are Zanza and Meyneth since they are all very close in skill level.

When not researching he usually spends time with his mate and friends. Shulk has known Fiora who are now his mate, and Reyn since he was a hatchling and grew up together with them so it does not come as a surprise that the three of them are and has always been very close. His mentor Dunban who happens to be Fiora's older brother has always been by his side supporting for as long as he can remember and Shulk sees him as a second(or third) father. Over a few years of traveling Shulk's friend circle has greatly expanded and there is no doubt that Shulk would risk his life to protect any of them. But even tho he cares greatly for all his friends, Fiora is something special to him, if she would be in trouble he would do anything to help her.
Alvis is a strange dragon and Shulk seems to think that there is lot more to him than what meets the eye. Regardless Shulk is more than happy with his help both regarding research of the core and and in fights that would have been a lot harder without Alvis as an ally.

In battle Shulk fights very similarly to Yusei as he relies on quick and accurate strikes to take down his opponents as he doesn't have the ability to take a lot of hits. Shulk wields a powerful magical blade that gives him the ability to manipulate his surroundings creating huge bursts of energy, protective shields or even enhancing the abilities of himself or nearby alleys allowing him to take more of a support role if needed. His blade combined with his gift of foresight makes him far more versatile than most other dragons making him one of the clans strongest fighters even rivaling those with the crimson curse.

Backstory

Shulk's parents were adventuring scholars and a part of a medium sized light clan. As a young hatchling he was always on the move with his loving parents raveling with them on their adventurous search for knowledge but sadly no matter how good life is, nothing lasts forever. One day his parents found what they had been searching for but the knowledge of what would die with them, as they gazed upon the artifact they just had found. None know who or what killed them but the fact still stands, Shulk were the only survivor of their entire research group and he can't remember what happened to them. There was no blood, no fire, nothing, they were just found dead and Shulk found unconscious. The dragon who found and took him in him was a strong adult Pearlcatcher named Delta. Shulk got adopted into a new clan and Delta took care of him like a father.
It was in this new clan he met Reyn and Fiora for the first time. All three of them were picked on by the other hatchlings so it came quite natural that they would team up, it was beneficial for all three of them at the time, if no one else would play with the outcasts they would play with each other instead and in time forging a strong friendship.

As he got older the thought of what had actually happen to his biological parents started nagging in the back of him mind. He hadn't thought much about it before but now when he started to get a greater understanding of the world around him and the subjects of both magic and technology, the thirst for a clear answer grew stronger for each passing day. And the thought of talking Delta about it didn't appeal to him at all.

---- As a Core Ignites the Flame ----

Delta might be kind but he are also very strict and he definitely doesn't like to be questioned, especially not by his son. But once curiosity had sparked there is no way he could just brush it off. He started to plan out a personal expedition in secret as he didn't want to drag his friends into it, but Fiora noticed almost instantly that something was off about him and confronted him about it. Shulk knew that he couldn't lie to Fiora because she would instantly notice so he told her everything. As long as Delta didn't know about it everything would be fine, or so he hoped.

A couple of days later the two of them set of by cover of the night in hope that none would notice but considering their normal luck they were noticed, luckily only by Reyn tho who ended up tagging along. This expedition would bring them to the same place where Shulk had been found and the purpose of it were simple: to look for any kind of clue to what might have happened on that day.
One they arrived nothing seemed to stand out, it was just like any other old ruin but it didn't take long before an oddly shaped rock cough Shulk's eye. At closer investigation it seemed like some kind of small ancient mechanism that laid in front of him half buried in the in the dirt. He started to carefully dig it loose by the help of his claws. It was clearly made out of metal but it had no sign of ether rust or erosion, yet it was clearly old, very old. When he asked his friends to take a look at it they said it just looked like an old piece of rusted metal but to Shulk it clearly didn't seen rusted at all something wasn't right about this thing. As he held it in his paws the mechanism lit up with a strong blue light but yet again nether Reyn of Fiora seemed to notice anything even tho Shulk were almost blinded by the light it emitted and nether did they see the glow that had appeared on the edges of his feathers.

Fiora gave him a questioning look. "Are you alright?" she said.
- "You really didn't see any of it?"
- "See what?" said Reyn.
- "no it was nothing, just forget that i said anything"
- "Shulk! don't lie to me, it was clearly something so tell me!" Fiora shouted at him as he tried to look unconcerned but it clearly wasn't working all that well. After a couple of moments of dead silence Shulk said: "well it was a light and now my wi...". a Pearlcatcher approached them form the shadows of a broken pillar. "Well, well, what do we have here? Did you really think that i wouldn't notice?". The entire group froze in place as they laid eyes on Delta. "Who thought you would be the one chosen by that core! It was supposed to be my power, MY GLORY! I AM NOT BLIND TO IT LIKE THOSE TWO FOOLS!" Reyn stood up and unfolded his enormous wings all while growling that Delta. "WHAT DID YOU JUST CALL ME!?!". Shulk put the mechanism in a bag thrown around his shoulder and looked at his huge Guardian friend and then at his father. It was like the tension had made the world go silent all the birds had stopped singing, not a single grasshopper playing, not even Reyn made a sound now, the only thing Shulk could hear was ste sound of his own heartbeat. It was like reality were about to shatter underneath his feet when the blue light flashed as bright as a lightning. Once his vision returned he saw a Guardian and two Skydancer laying on the ground motionless surrounded by fire with an Imperial standing above them trying desperately to wake them up. A second flash of light and it seemed like reality had returned, Reyn were still in stance ready to leap at Delta any second and Fiora stood in the same place as she had before the light struck. Shulk stood there confused trying to understand what just happened but there was no time to think as Reyn and Delta clashed with full force. There are few things that can make the ground quake like a ragging Guardian but Delta just danced around Reyn like it was nothing.

Delta lit up everything around him with fire forcing Reyn back. It hit Shulk like a lightning for a clear sky, He had seen fire in that vision, fire and death. He knew what would happen next and there had to be a way to stop it, there just had to be. His entire body lit up in an instant all on it's own emitting a bright blue light as a yellow force field where created around them protecting them form the fire. Shulk had no idea how long he could keep up the force field but what he did know was that if it broke it would be the end.
A huge shadow were cast upon the ground as a gigantic grey Imperial wielding an enormous blade descended from the sky. The Imperial hit Delta with a full force cleaver swipe sending Delta flying several meters back before his back hit a pillar coursing loud cracking sound. "That's what you get for hurting my little sister". "D...Dunban, did you just...kill him?" Fiora asked in a shaky tone. The force field dispersed an the glow that surrounded Shulk died down leaving a yellow circuit pattern behind. It was clear to him that he a plenty of explaining to do but not now, not here. "This place brings death..." he said quietly as he looked at the dead body of his second father while desperately trying to understand why i had to come to this. Fiora made a halfhearted attempt to comfort him but it was as pointless as something could get, she knew as well as everyone else that they wouldn't be welcome in their clan anymore, not after this.

The group could not return home after what happened, none of them would be welcome anymore. They had no choice but to leave and look for a new home.
