Biography
Amnion
~ The Alpha ~
A fierce dragon is she who leads Clan Stacked Deck. Amnion is a survivalist of ruthless determination, who takes no title but her name, invests in no armour but her tattoos, and believes in no authority but that which is held on the most personal level, face to face and voice against voice. The rule of Amnion is characterised by a breed of honesty which manifests itself in disdain for ceremony, base language, and perfect clarity over what she intends and why. Though Amnion is not friendly, she has inspired firm loyalty in a clan which has come to learn that their matriarch not only respects their bond but will protect it fervently.
Amnion's dominance is no longer questioned by the Stacked Deck. However, her early years are rife with subterfuge and illegitimacy. The core of Amnion's motivation for founding a colony in her youth lay not with any entitlement or ability for her to do so, but in an ugly dilemma she faced at the time. Amnion is not a first-generation Mirror, but was born into a sizeable, orthodox, but disorganised clan of the Ashfall Waste, the precise identity of which she has not disclosed but is rumoured to have collapsed of its own accord. She was a sickly hatchling. Unpatterned and unpigmented from birth, she burned easily in the sun of the Molten Scar, a trait still true of her pale skin. Quickly growing embittered as her siblings and cousins outstripped her progress, Amnion grew unruly, and considered her condition an act of unprovoked spite from the Flamecaller her family revered.
Shortly after maturation, Amnion's rage culminated in an act of blasphemy that so reviled her elders that she was not only sentenced to shame and exile, but blotted from her family records. Branded with an outlaw's mark that rendered her life forfeit and turned out into the badlands, Amnion's chances of survival alone were slim, and she knew of no clan that would accept a vagabond without a patron family- None that were any more than mobs. Nor did she heed the idea of unravelling her mortal coil for the realm of a god whom she had been so personally slighted by, and had snapped back in return. Amnion came to conclude that if she desired a community willing to accept her, she was fated to birth it herself.
In order to pass off her expunged history as the blank slate of a progenitor, Amnion sought a legitimate patriarch for a new clan, and in doing so encountered Sandgroper, who was to become the most significant figure in her life. San was vain, submissive, dependent, and initially considered a forced liability. He soon became the project's most valuable asset. As a secretary, San was efficient; As a a recruiter, he excelled. Amnion engaged herself in carving, feeding and defending a newborn lair, and San, swept up in the wings of her desperate determination, scouted with great precision for the dragons he could barter, debate and smuggle into its body. Sublimely complimented by San's patient bookkeeping and uncanny ability to proselyitize, Amnion survived, and in time, thrived.
One year, as the Stacked Deck clan went about its business in safety and strength, she removed the wrappings with which she had covered her skin and her brand, and assimilated her outlaw's mark into a jagged spiral of tattoo ink. For Amnion knew that in hardship, she had grown resilient; In banishment, honest; and she would never again let any weakness dictate her lot or break the soul of the community she had fostered.
The Orchardist shares a bizarre, one-sided rivalry with the clan matriarch. Though the Coatl doesn't care for Amnion any more than she does for everyone else, Amnion has a strange fascination with her, and views her as an exploration of her own domineering personality taken a dangerous step further. Observing the Orchardist has led to some sombre moments of self-consciousness in her style of rule.
