Biography

Haumea
~ the Malevolent Orchardist ~
The Coatl who tends the garden encircling the entrance to her clan's communal lair is of a rare nature. She screamed in hatching, furious at the world for making her exist, and seems to have been exacting vengeance ever since. The Orchardist eschews anything forced upon her, starting with her birth name and culminating in the ethic of reciprocity. She shows no love for her fellow dragon, and seems to take shallow satisfaction from terrorising anyone she perceives as vulnerable. It is to the Stacked Deck clan's general relief that her occupation keeps her perpetually out of doors.

The duty of gardener and botanist was assumed early by the Orchardist. Almost as soon as she could speak and fly, the Coatl was strongly drawn to the clan's plantations of fruits and flowers. Shortly after, she began to engage in fierce bullying of their former workers, and claimed the garden as her own, spending hours and days in meticulous sketchwork, science and cultivation. It is thought that she chose her occupation as a means to fulfil her fantasy of complete control over other living things, be they only the plants of her orchard.

The Orchardist does allow the majority of her produce to be collected by the clan in a tense understanding that protects her from outright exile. For the dragons who come to harvest, she leaves clearly marked signposts to what they can and can not take, the first of which are rumoured to have been set up by the clan's patriarch in an attempt to curb the results of her aggression, but the idea of which has been seized upon by the Coatl herself. These threatening messages are the best glimpse most dragons get of the Orchardist, and for that, they are grateful.

The Orchardist shares a bizarre, one-sided rivalry with the clan matriarch. Though the Coatl doesn't care for Amnion any more than she does for everyone else, Amnion has a strange fascination with her, and views her as an exploration of her own domineering personality taken a dangerous step further. Observing the Orchardist has led to some uncharacteristic moments of self-consciousness in how she is ruling the clan.
