Solstice
The Dominant
"Do not speak to me as if we are both, I daresay, on equal terms."

Solstice was once a beautiful queen of her own ice kingdom on the islands far to the south. Her minions basked in her frigid aura and enjoyed the bursting color of the sunset reflecting on the ice. And they served her. Until one day, she was caught stealing an egg from a young couple. They had recently moved and were quite young, she thought them as easy targets to create another minion from, but she had grown sloppy. She was seen, and followed. Her domain was found, and soon dragons and clans from all over the ice fields were teaming together to liberate her minions, to end her grip on their lives, to save those that weren't yet conformed. How rude.

Solstice fled, taking the egg with her. At least she could start fresh with one minion. The magic of the land hadn't even taken grip on the egg yet. She flew over the sea until she reached the desert of the Lightning God. No one would suspect her here. She landed on top of a small looking clan, crushing the spire that gleamed like a pearl in the centre. She demanded to see the leader of this clan, her voice froze every dragon in their tracks. Won't anyone dare tell her to leave?

The leader did come out to tell her to leave, how perfectly fortunate. A beautiful golden pearlcatcher, with eyes and claws red with fury. How dare she land on this pearlcatcher's sacred home? Solstice wasn't a peasant or a princess or anything in between. She was the queen, and this pearlcatcher's beautiful coat or rage-fueled words meant nothing to her. With an icy smoothness, she made it clear to this pearlcatcher who was in charge now. And she sealed the deal with a brisk chomp of the jaw, effectively snapping the old leader in half. Whoever dare stand up to her next could enjoy the same fate, she assured the rest of the chilled clan, moving her way into the interior of the lair.

Unfortunately, the clan was not as well behaved as she would have liked. Solstice had to eliminated more dragons than she personally would have liked. She didn't want to end so many lives, they were useless to her dead. But even more useless were the ones that fought back, resisted her attempts to make them her frozen minions. It was much harder to freeze in the lightning desert than in the ice fields, but her fortress underground was almost as beautiful as her old kingdom. The ice was splashed red, almost like the sunset. The egg she had taken had hatched, but the young mirror was not at all conforming to her. She has but one minion, a feeble shadow skydancer that had melted to her command after she had removed his two closest friends. She called him Equinox, but he was too weak to do anything she really needed done.

Even with so many of the clan dead, and with the many that fled for their lives, the clan she had taken would not submit. There was a strong one, they called her Faedril, who would not budge for the power of Solstice. This wildclaw had enough strength to combat Solstice, and with the help of the clan kept her prisoner in her own chamber. The underground cavern lined with ice, her own throne room, became her grave. Solstice used all her energy to battle the wildclaw, unaware of the fate that would befell her. While their battle raged for days, the rest of the betrayers sealed the entryway of her glorious hall. With magics unknown to the queen, she could not dig her way out, and her impressive size became her enemy. With her power subdued, the Reign of Ice was over.

Solstice still lives in her icy cavern below the clan. She relies on her only minion, Equinox, to bring her food everyday. Her mirror she took never did submit to her, even after she slashed his eyes and pierced his wings. While she left him to go hungry for a few days, he escaped. She suspects Equinox betrayed her and freed the mirror, but he is her only companionship in her kingdom, she dare not bring up the subject.
