“Come on, pay up. 150,000 gold pieces, no more, no less. The sign is very clear,” Shabaan tapped the aforementioned sign.
A fae and her hatchling were before him, the pitiful thing shivering in her arms.
“Please, have mercy! I need to know if she’ll live,” tears were poking at the edges of her purple shadow eyes, and the child coughed weakly, curling into an even tighter ball.
“No. Do you know what will happen if I start giving away my services for free?” the skydancer stepped closer to the small dragon, his eyes unknowable underneath his skull mask. “Everyone will come down to Shabaan’s for a prophecy. And I’ve seen what would happen if that came to be. You don’t want it.”
The fae’s fins flared in anger, and she was just about to speak again when a pearlcatcher with silver and gold ringlets pushed past her easily, a coin purse around his neck jingling with the weight of treasure.
“Excuse me, excuse me! I have an appointment! Very important, as you know,” his voice had an upper-class drawl to it, and his numerous shimmering silks spoke to his wealth as much as his accent did.
“Ah yes, sir. Please, do come in,” Shabaan hissed welcomingly. The pouch was deposited neatly into his talons, and he shoved it into the folds of his mantle.
“Now, what do you wish to know today?” he sat down, the snake around his neck stretching itself further to get a smell of this new dragon.
“Tell me, will my recent investment come through? It’s very important that it does, and I put a lot of gems into it,” the pearlcatcher’s impressive mane caught the light of Shabaan’s ominously floating candles.
“Wait here, sir. I must consult with the depths.” The pearlcatcher nodded, settling down and inspecting his own reflection in the depths of his own pearl.
Shabaan pushed aside a bead curtain, the small glass baubles clinking against each other in a soft jangle. He pulled out the pouch of coins, and set aside a small pool of them. He grabbed various powders and a scrap of paper with something written on it, and poured the remaining coins into a mortar and pestle. He began to crush them with ruthless efficiency, moving faster than should have been possible without magic. Soon, they were a fine gold mist, staining his talons with flecks of shiny wealth. He poured this and all the other ingredients into a stone basin at the center of the room, and began to chant while holding the paper. The water swirled all on its own, turning into a silvery surface. When it was almost perfectly reflective he tossed in the paper, which instantly withered away. What showed next was the pearlcatcher in the other room, his silks torn, being unceremoniously shoved from a room by a burly guardian dragon. A bright light shone from the basin, and the light streamed into Shabaan’s mouth and eyes.
When he returned, his eyes were still glowing softly. The pearlcatcher perked up, and asked what he had seen.
“Your investment will be successful, but try to refrain from making any comments about their daughters,” he advised. He knew nothing would change. The rude dragon would be unceremonious and egotistical, and no matter what he told him, that wouldn’t change it. But he could use their sacrificial wealth to discover the past. And that was what kept him going.t

Shabaan is absolutely a hoarder of useless knowledge. He brings it up in the most inopportune times, and it's somewhat funny to see him bumble about in conversation with the more "modern" drake.
Seer/oracle who will only tell others what he knows for payment. Runs a small shop hidden away.
