Biography
Kushinada made her way through the labyrinth of a palace, the hubble of noises from the Great Hall still in her ears. This fine prince, her childhood “friend”, looking for a wife? There was no way it could be her, but she still couldn’t help hoping, fantasizing. She daydreamed as she gracefully ascended a grand flight of stairs, her long body looping gleefully. Kushinada couldn’t imagine a life with so much luxury, yet so much responsibility.
She was so zoned out that she bumped into someone who, with no doubt, was the magnificent Prince Susanoo of her dreams. Kushinada leaped back in surprise, and then saw that there was no anger in his face. He smiled kindly at her. “Hello.”
“Um… hi!” she said nervously, twitching with self consciousness, “just heading to my rooms. So, uh, where are you off too?” Stupid, stupid, stupid! Kushinada, you idiot! Why can’t you just look where you’re going? She wanted to slap herself in the snout.
“Same as you,” said the prince smoothly, “my rooms.”
“Oh, um… that’s cool,” Kushinada tried to sound as unstirred as him. “Me too.” Wait. WHAT?
Susanoo looked at her questionably.
“I mean, flea stew! I… was going to have flea stew when I get too my rooms.”
“Ah, a delicacy. Haven’t had that in a while, me.”
“Well, I like it quite a lot,” she said, “though I haven’t had it recently.”
“So, I haven’t seen you lately, have I?” He changed the subject as they rounded a corner.
“No,” she said, and stopped herself from blurting something else foolish. She still couldn’t believe she was walking with the Prince Susanoo, every sparkling scale of him. She felt a little woozy with excitement and terror.
“Um. Y-you are looking for a wife, right?” she asked nervously, trying not to sound to hint-y.
“Oh, yes,” he said, unruffled, “perhaps someone… like you?” Kushinada froze in her tracks and stared straight ahead.
“Me?” she cried, astonished.
He looked confused. “Why not?” He asked.
“I mean… why would you?”
“Why not?” He repeated.
“Because I’m… me! I don’t have anything great about me, I'm nervous about everything, I have no friends. Nobody listens to me, I’m an overall nuisance to the kingdom. I really, really don’t think you should pick me.”
“Well,” he replied with no giddiness, “I’m listening to you now, aren’t I?”
“Um. I guess so.”
“So,” said Susanoo casually, “Kushinada, will you marry me?”
