"The universe can be cruel, but it can also be beautiful and kind"

Despite being born into the world of nigh-endless magical wonder that is the higher levels of the Starfall Isles, Kat was restless for a different kind of knowledge: that of life. She couldn't wait to go out into the world, partially for her own curiosity and partially because of her loneliness at being the only Guardian, apart from her parents, in her clan.

Unfortunately, the double-edged sword of restlessness and curiosity caused her to fall in with the wrong sort of dragons and run away with the intent of joining their band of mercenaries. Predictably, they abandoned her in the middle of a smuggling trip across the Abiding Boneyard, and she had to sink or swim to survive coming back out. Even so, the Scarred Wasteland was good to her in many ways, shaping her to become a formidable warrior and giving her the skills to rise to the top of the mercenary bands that skittered around the barren edges between Dragonhome and the Wasteland. She got her revenge on the former friends who had abandoned her in an attempt to end her ceaseless drive to fulfill an unknown purpose, and afterwards, the continuing presence of that feeling drove her to take up a commission that she never would have considered in a sane state of mind.

The mission was to kill a traveling doctor who had been making unfortunate breakthroughs in the direction of curing a plague that kept non-Plague dragons out of Rotrock Rim. While that would be considered a good thing, even by Kat, a certain sect of contagion priests wanted to retain their enforced solitude. She came within a moment of crushing the doctor's spine with magic, only returning to herself at the sight of the sick hatchlings he was caring for. She let go and fled, abandoning the Scarred Wasteland and searching for a place as far from dry, sickly earth and still, virus-ridden air as she could find.

Almost seven years passed before she found the Anaey Clan- a clan still somewhat embroiled in Sornieth's underground, but also possessed of a separate daylight community that made their living honestly. She settled in as a guard for them, rising to the rank of General of their limited defensive force by the time she ran into her former target again.

It turned out that his name was Rikuto and he had succeeded in curing the plague, only to be deliberately infected with a pathogen that stripped away the antibodies that Plague dragons naturally possessed, leaving him defenseless against the virulent atmosphere in the Scarred Wasteland. Kat avoided him for a number of weeks before they eventually met, and it took another year for Kat to let go of her guilt at his attempted murder.

Eventually, Rikuto proposed to her, something she was not expecting by any means, but a most welcome surprise. They got married and had two hatchlings before the year was out. Their children, Tosune and Tsariel, chose Exaltation out of devotion to the Tidelord, a decision accepted well by Kat, who had herself turned to devotion in her steadier middle age.

The brilliant stains of Arcane blessing came after the death of Talira and the Exaltation of Thisia, and came as somewhat of a consolation to the stricken mother. It was a sign that she was still watched over by the Arcanist, and she welcomed her new mantle as acolyte gladly, using the new power to defend her clan in even greater conflicts.
