Nachtlicht

Once, Storm's true mate. Nachtlicht is a wiser, more arrogant version of his former partner, and more skilled with negotiation and public speaking. Storm's ideas pass through him before they are spoken to the clan. A staunch pacifist, Nachtlicht refuses to fight. As such, he also does not hunt, but does not burden his clan and instead is entirely vegetarian. Alongside this, he is a skilled mage and a powerful healer; he wields the Arcanist's magic with extreme superiority.

After his ex-wife's return and his release from Marie's imprisonment, he has struggled to return to normal clan life. In light of all the recent changes, he has become starkly aware of his own uselessness since he refuses to fight. If he had only done better, tried harder, he might've been able to chase down Storm before she was altered in the cultist cave.

Nachtlicht is not particularly valuable to the clan, nor do he and the other dragons really get along. The reason behind his staying in the clan is easily visible: he doesn't want to leave Storm.

While the rest of the clan moves on from their defeats and stands proud in their rebirth, Nachtlicht is keenly aware that he is stuck in the past, and is constantly haunted by his days alone in the Technogaol, chained in a sealed den while his mate was subject to endless hell- and what's more, he was completely ineffective at getting help. He wasn't even there to help rescue her.

Storm didn't have the time to devote to helping her mate out of the slumps, and wasn't even aware that he is was far down. The pearlcatcher, however, is very aware of his condition and ex-his wife's lack of interest, and it is compounded by how valuable and helpful the (filthy) imperials are. Where does he go now?

Seeking change a sort of self-punishment, Nacht has divorced Storm, a decision that she resisted but eventually relented to. With heavy burdens, he still will not leave the clan, but he now embarks on his own journey alone outside their ranks, seeking a new self.
