The winds once passed over all Sornieth, save one place. It is said that this place is where the Windsinger originally fashioned himself from the swirling magic of a new-formed world, and that the winds left this place with him when he moved away from it. For Ages, no matter what storms raged over the rest of Sornieth, this one corner of the continent was perfectly still. Eventually, the world was nearly shattered, and the Eleven moved out to their own territories, each according to where the shattered pillar had fallen. The Windsinger followed the pull of the fragment that had housed himself until he saw steppes in the distance. He pushed toward them, noticing how the air swept across the lower plains, becoming more playful as it rose up the steppes before soothing into a steady but strong breeze high above the plains. This place would do well for the children he would fashion. He nearly fell from the sky when suddenly the winds vanished from around him. This would never do, that a corner of his home would deny his children the wind. He began to swirl magic in the air around him, filling the still area with winds, but the center still resisted him. He flung the winds faster and faster, but the very center of the dead air still resisted him. Finally, when it had been reduced to a small area barely large enough to fit his form, he fell still. The winds howled around him, seeming to have a mind of their own, but the very center was still and silent. The Windsinger looked around, and decided that those of his children who could arrive here would not forget his power even if it was absent from this one spot. And that is how the Twisting Crescendo was formed, and why there is said to be a place of perfect stillness within it.
