Varanasi has been an unusual dragon from the beginning. She never hatched; she just popped into existence one day somewhere in the Starfall Isles. Not long afterwards, she met Xerxes (who'd done the same), and the two have been inseparable since. It is impossible to tell the story of one without telling the story of the other.

In the decades she's spent alive, Varanasi has been through a lot. She started simply as a mate and mother; then she became a leader, then a follower, and then a leader again. After that, she was pure magical essence and energy, hidden away; she reformed and again became a leader. But in this most recent iteration of leadership, Varanasi made a mistake: she listened to the darkness creeping in her heart like thorny vines. She became jaded, and took herself, Xerxes, and the clan they led down a dark road of thievery, subjugation, and death.

In fact, this was such a terrible decision that it led to her and Xerxes' own imprisonment. Their attempt to take over the Sea of a Thousand Currents forced their deity to step in; he locked them in a magical tower in another realm. They remained there for who knows how long until, at the Arcanist's whims, they were suddenly freed and dropped into the Starwood Strand. They then continued with their lives, until eventually deciding to go find Saturn & Frostbyte's remains.

Prior to all that, Varanasi was the epitome of the strong, silent type. Her diminutive body and quiet demeanor couldn't entirely mask an inner aggressiveness she still carries now, born of the desire to protect herself and her loved ones. Because her true form is just energy that happened to coalesce into a dragon body, she possessed immense magical power and talent, and was well-versed in using it.
