Your God is coming, are you prepared?
╭
Rise is one of the newest dragons to enter the Tribe - though her age begets great wisdom. In fact, she is one of, if not, the oldest dragon in the clan. Why did she choose this place, of all, to settle? Loa, one of the other more spiritual dragons in the clan, thinks she knows more than she lets on. But alas, she came to Voltair and offered her services. And the grave pearlcatcher agreed. Rise lives on one of the higher branches of The Tree, where ‘she has greater access to the lights’. When gently advised that the lights were stars, she turned to the younger dragon with a gaze like ice, telling him that she already knew of the existence of stars. Those were not what she was looking for. Rise is a soothsayer, but she does not predict the future. She can access multiple versions of the present, through tiny pools of water. A look into the house she resides reveals many jars, bottles, cups, clogged sinks and tanks, all vessels full of different-coloured liquids. Most of them contain portals to other lands, though the contents of said portals were blurry and indistinct. Different colours and images floated past but only Rise knew the meanings. Some vessels were completely black. Rise disregarded those ones entirely. Rise and Ursa get along swimmingly, and Rise often purchases small bags from her at a great discount. No one knows what’s in those bags. Occasionally she is visited by large insects. Her neighbours are not appreciative of the constantly buzzing as Rise stands on the porch of her home, but they are simply attracted to the bright lights. Rise thinks they make great messengers. The vagueness of that comment makes her neighbours uneasy, but they know better than to poke their noses in another dragons’ business.

""“A pretty sunset tonight,” Modremoth mused, before turning his face to the rest of the council. Before him sat Kafani and Voltair, their new forms still jarring Modremoth. He was still not used to the once-Faes taking up so much space. Pyre and Loa sat on the other side, with Endo oddly not present. His role in the library, what with the growth of the Tribe, meant he was now seldom seen at council meetings. Anaisa had found time to come up from the Library though, with quiet apologies for his absence. It was to be a quick meeting, he had told everyone. Yet another weekly meeting to keep up with communications and address any large news. And it had started our that way as well. New dragons had joined the Tribe, and older dragons had left. Some had undergone radical transformations like Kafani and Voltair, with others still completely exchanging their old body for a new one. Once the secret of Reincarnation had been discovered and commercialised, dragons were travelling from afar to change themselves into something else. That had brought its own kettle of worms. Dragons were being kidnapped, forced against their will to be the unwilling new bodies for rich nobles. One such dragon, Calamity, was the unfortunate result of such an attempt. A dragon forced to keep shut with an undesirable job, she was proving to be her own little problem. And on the other side of the swamp separating the Tribe, ugh. Modremoth didn’t even bother delving deeper into that rancid thought. They operated on a need-to-know basis, and he’d prefer not to know. If he didn’t think of the illegal things operating under his nose, then maybe they’d stay little and quiet. So he sat and listened. Sludge snored in the background, slumped over a chair that balanced on two legs. He’d wanted to be there. But as soon as the less interesting delegates appeared, he’d be out like a light. One of those delegates was speaking now, with cursory glances towards Sludge’s whistly breaths. “The maren are reporting that a new area has opened up, an area in the Shifting Expanse called…” Kaveh began, glancing at some hastily written scrawls on his hand. “…Thundering Savannah?” “Thunderhead Savannah,” a new voice droned, as a dragon stepped in from the entrance. A wet, turquoise mane slid over a skeletal face and sinewy neck. Robed in the clothes of a mystic, Rise had certainly made an entrance. Kaveh turned and paled as the tall skydancer looked down her empty nose at him. “Please ensure your information is correct before reporting it, young pearlcatcher. Your fishy friends operate on rumours and half-truths. When information gets passed down through multiple mouths, it’s common to see stories change.” Kaveh was indignant to hear his maren belittled. “It has been no easy task to get the maren to co-operate with me, and I do not deserve your insults!” He bristled, his glow seeming to brighten, but the skydancer shook him off with a shrug. Kaveh was all but forgotten as Rise addressed the other skydancer in the room. “Modremoth, you do not know me, but do not worry. There is no need to introduce yourself. I already know. Your ambassador speaks the truth about the savannah but forgot to mention the recently discovered species living upon it. I would implore you to confer with your other scouts. As for what I’m here for…” She turned to the rest of the council, their faces solemn. “One of your gods is coming. A lesser god, but one nonetheless. The lights have foretold their arrival, and now my portals speak the truth. They have not chosen a mortal body yet but are currently in the process. You have been warned.” Sludge finally woke, staring at the dark skydancer. Loa spoke, with her voice low. “You mean the spirit that has blessed us with our luck and good fortune?” “I do not know much of your…. Spirit…. That you may call them, but they are no deceased mortal. They exist on a larger plane. That which is completely incomprehensible. I believe your spells of reincarnation and scrolls of form shifting are linked to this god.” “When are we to expect this god?” Pyre was fierce in her statement. Gods to her, were beings of destruction, always poking their noses into places they don’t belong. “I do not predict the future. I only know of the present.” Rise’s response was dismissive, as if she was not talking to the most dangerous dragon in the room. But Rise knew she wasn’t. Ursa wasn’t there. Turning around, Rise started to leave, but not before craning her head back at Sludge. “But, if I was to make any estimate, I would say in the next few years. The right body must be chosen. You may know very well of this process, Imperial.” Laughing, Rise left at the same dramatic fashion she had entered, while the only dragon to have been reincarnated in the room sat up in confusion and worry. Modremoth sighed and rubbed his head. Now Rise was giving him a headache. There was no continuing the council meeting after this. Dismissing the bickering dragons with a wave of his hand, Modremoth annulled the meeting. The sunset had faded into night, and he needed to find a skydancer.
