Biography
Stormhead (the Bleeder)
"I'd leave but a skydancer who can't tell right from wrong is close to dead on land."
"He's had his share'a misery just like the rest o' us."
You know...Crag, if you'd let me get a word in edgewise I'd likely prove you wrong in that argument... Well, now that you've stopped talking to breathe, we have company. A new sailor, perhaps? Do you remember the captain hiring more hands this time to port? I don't. Or, perhaps, you've wandered into here because you thought this tavern was open to everyone. No, when the Crowned Thresher makes port, Starn clears the tavern out for us. We're paying customers. Crag, just keep eating, I'll handle this. Every time you're nice to a dragon they think they can follow you on to the ship because you're too friendly. As for you, make your way out of here before I make you leave and it won't be the same way you came in, I can assure you of that. Besides, if you don't leave, you'll be lucky if I'm the one forcing you out because most of the crew like a dragon that puts up a fight. It means it's more fun when they die. There, I thought that'd make you move. Allies |
History
Hatched in a clutch of four eggs, the male lived in a state of happiness. Being curious saw him leading his siblings in to trouble constantly because he was always looking to see what was around the next corner. Occasionally, he and his younger sister would slip away leaving the older two to avoid getting caught as quickly. This once caused them to nearly be caught by harpies. As they grew older though, the siblings had grown close but the clan leaders had different plans for them. "After seeing his two eldest siblings sent off to fight for a distant god, Stormhead began to do something new: fear. He feared for himself and for his remaining sister, waiting for the day when they too would be exalted without say in the matter. Fear gave way to determination within days. He refused to be sent away, refused to let anyone use him. When the clan leaders approached him, he accepted their training - it was his best ticket out of here. As he trained, Stormhead began to hear concerned whispers about his apparent ruthlessness, how the leaders were unsure if such a dragon could be trusted to stay in the clan. There were no such concerns for his sister, whose reputation had only risen when Stormhead's had fallen. These rumors meant that Stormhead couldn't be far from the exalt block, so he said goodbye to his family and ran." He spent his days traveling from territory to territory, sheltering with friendly clans when they offered it and avoiding the more territorial ones. He heard rumors that his sister had chosen to leave and intended to try and find her. If the clan was welcoming, perhaps he could remain with his one sibling but fate had a different path intended. While he was staying in a Nature clan he witnessed the assassination of their leader, Colvari by the local alchemist. Yet, before he could say anything, the evidence that had been left behind: Shimmering fur, and paw prints in the shape of a skydancer's caused the clan to blame him. Cornered and sensing that they were about to attack, he defended himself using the training from his birth clan to keep him alive. It resulted in the actual death of a tundra and the blood was on his claws this time but Stormhead managed to escape. He flew across the bay, riding on currents of wind when he could to avoid tiring out before he reached the Tangled Wood. The skydancer, lost among the trees and darkness, wandered aimlessly for days. He avoided the scent of dragon territories but they didn't avoid him and Stormhead was forced to run when the echoes of voices around him plagued him. They ran him straight into quicksand and there they left him but not before stealing what food and supplies he had (which was very little at the time). He nearly would have died at the teeth of a pack of umbra wolves had a patrol of shadow dragons not found him when they were starting to close in. He made it out with minimal injuries and they escorted him to their clan. Stormhead didn't stay though. He ate and drank before they escorted him to the edge of the Tangled Wood. Had Stormhead not flown, literally, into a pirate, he might have continued to wander Sornieth. Instead, during his stay near the auction house, he fled from dragons trying to steal the gloves he wore along with his coin purse. He ran into a fiery wildclaw, knocking her off her feet. She nearly attacked him but instead, found herself face to face with his attackers, two fae who pelted her with magic missiles. When the short fight was over, the fae had fled and the wildclaw turned her wrath upon Stormhead. Knowing what she was, he begged her to take him with her to the ship but she refused. Determined, the skydancer went to the docks of the auction house. Pirates didn't ask questions and they could help him to avoid becoming fodder for any clan. So, he lied to the first mate, Alibi about having worked on ships before and was hired. While he had no knowledge of ships, Stormhead had one thing above most of the crew: He was willing to do anything to survive. Yet, even with that motive, he had trouble, even before the ship set sail and the crew was getting agitated. If he couldn't anticipate their attitude using his antennae, the skydancer would have died the first few days on the ship. His savior came in the form of the fiery wildclaw, Heike. She wasn't happy to see him when she saw him working on the ship but he begged her to help him. She would have refused if he hadn't promised his weekly pay of five hundred treasure in addition to her own to teach him how to be a pirate. With Heike helping him, Stormhead learned albeit not quickly and with his blunders on the first few days, the skydancer had unknowingly made enemies aboard the ship. The help he had in learning didn't follow him into defending himself when two of the crew, Tyrok, and Caliaer, one a skydancer and the other a coatl, ambushed him below decks. They beat him into unconsciousness and cut off all of his antennae to the sphere on his head. He awoke some time later floating in stagnant bilge water. The skydancer, both pained and horrified, found Lana who patched what open wounds he had. She couldn't fix his antennae though, only provide a soothing poultice that lessened the intense pain. He was devastated. Heike showed little by way of pity and only told him that if he left the next time they made port, he might still have his skin but Stormhead refused to leave. He was forced into his first pillage while his wounds were still healing. Death was nothing new to him but he only acted in self defense and with no knowledge of fighting, the skydancer would have died if Heike hadn't killed the mirror overpowering him. The fear and pity he initially had bled into anger and frustration when he avoided fighting the clans. They didn't give him a chance to speak and he wasn't willing to end up beneath another mirror pleading for his life. When he became fed up, he approached Heike once more. He worked well aboard the ship though he was still learning. Heike shrugged at his request to learn how to fight and instead directed him to Zap or Lucy. Instead, he found Kholin who was willing to teach him without cost save for 'loyalty and life to the ship and captain'. Stormhead had to learn to fight slightly differently from the behemoth because some of Kholin's fighting was based on his size and weight. His training started to show during pillages and his goal was to pin his opponent down before inflicting large amounts of damage to their underside and throats. His enemies, while occasionally gaining the upper claw when they were able to roll him off, often died from their wounds later through excessive bleeding. This tactic has earned him the title 'the bleeder' among clans and crew alike. Since his tactics are deadly, he often loses in the ring because he avoids using them on the crew. Once he was able to fight, he sought revenge on the two dragons that crippled him as a skydancer. Both disappeared on two separate occasions, one during pillaging and the other at port when the crew remaining on the ship had been sleeping. He no longer pays Heike for training, having learned everything she could teach him and while the skydancer has had several opportunities to leave and continue his wandering, he hasn't. He has few quarrels with the crew and has become close friends with Heike though the wildclaw snorts at the suggestion and dismisses it. He gets along well with most of the crew because they jest with him or talk but only the most daring mention his lack of antennae. Pillages give him trophies to wear, including valuable armor to keep his attackers from further injuring him. |
