He stared hard at the stony wall, devoid of color and brushed off for its dust. Pristine, it was waiting for his art to take shape and to tell its story. But what to depict? The beginning of the dragon gods? The dragons of Dragonhome? The conflict with the Beast Clans? This whole world of Sornieth was built on stories and legends, either known in the minds of those that inhabit it or lost, waiting for another to unearth it… He cocked his head at the wall, noticing its grooves while rubbing his furry chin. After a moment of contemplation, he suddenly had inspiration! The Tundra leaned towards his many bowls of special materials that could easily be made into paints with a little water, which he kept in a large flask. He drew one of the bowls, filled with a green pigment, and poured a little water to mix in with his fingers. Once he was satisfied the paint had a good consistency, he dabbed one finger with a healthy wad of it and drew it across the wall in a streak. The green horizon became expanded to a wide plain, and then he drew the bowl with the red pigment. The Tundra prepped the red paint and proceeded to dab a couple of fingers into it. Rather than drag his fingers over the wall, he tapped the green field to illustrate an abundance of red poppies, swaying in the wind with the long blades of grass. What about the sky? He chuckled to himself, smiling at the image in his head. Swiftly, he prepped an assortment of other pigments and like a galestorm, his arms moved like liquid upon the canvas. The sun emerged first, its face half hidden by the land and glowing a vibrant orange. Then, it seemed like the sun was ablaze with wisps of red reaching from it like hands. The colors began to meld, glowing less intensely the further it traveled from the source of the light. Eventually, it reached to a purple-grey and finished the landscape’s sky. Lastly, he took hold of the black pigment, and with a slower tempo, methodically created a pair of shapes in the sky. First the bodies, then the limbs, arms, legs, tails… the wings were last, giving the bodies a reason to be flying in the sky. Standing back to take in the completed work, he paused and smiled. Was this a sunset? A sunrise? Were those dragons flying into the sun or from the sun? What was their journey to and what was its purpose? Only the Earthshaker would know and for the work’s onlookers to guess. When he turned around, he already saw a crowd looking at him and his painting. They were holding their breath and craning their necks to attempt to see the full image from behind the Tundra. His smile expanded even wider (somehow after his smile was already widened), and he gracefully pulled away from the work. As he stood back, he listened to their chatter, filled with excitement and speculation. Closing his eyes, he took all the sounds in... | xxxx |
