When the sun goes low and the darkening sky invites the land to rest
The insects stir, the flowers fold, and a dragon leaves her nest.
The figure is an auspicious sight, for a stain creeps up her hide.
Aubergine on a caramel field, it appears like ink in the light.
The dragon bounds into the air
Head lunging towards the sky
The mottled wings unfold with care
To resume a nocturnal flight
An omen, a spirit, a foe, a friend,
She cares not what the townsfolk say
The clan is having nightmares again
And their oracle seeks her aid.
A few strange drakes are invited in with a hope that the troubles might end.
There is one who tampers with rituals old, a drake called Eowyn.
Eowyn, born on a leap day, has a powerful magical affinity. Unfortunately, it's not the flavor of magic most dragons play with. While some folks would use their elemental prowess to aid a friend, smite a foe, make succulent feasts, or reveal that which was hidden, Eowyn taps into the stranger side of Sorneith to sate her curiosity.
Invoking the supernatural often has its consequences, however. Spirits and ancient creatures often accompany the spells and rituals Eo performs, and not all of them are keen on sharing their arcane knowledge. Eowyn’s intention is only to probe, to interrogate her visitors about the power emanating from the object of her studies. Interactions often turn violent, as Eo seeks answers quickly. The dragon has often tried to capture the spirits upon summoning them, but her craft isn’t perfect.
Fortunately, both Eowyn and the spirits she summons have taken a liking to the little creatures populating the local clan. Eowyn will occasionally send her mith familiar into Da’Renan to scout and lure a hatchling back to her lair. She considers the clan’s children her own and is quite confused and hostile when a distraught war party retaliates.
Living on the edge of territory helps when committing unsavory deeds. Every time a war party approaches, they’re met with a curse, an exploding rune, or a possessed beastclan posse. She has never approached the clan directly.
Eowyn is in equal magical power to Calea, which the latter has begrudgingly acknowledged. The Da’Renan clan loathes having a threat to their hatchlings in the territory, but in spite of the tragic situation, Eowyn is an asset. Her knowledge of dispelling hexes and banishing creatures is the best among the clan. Calea considers her an uneasy ally.
