Phyll has carved himself into a formidable coli opponent; a feat, given his lack of formal training. From the toned physique to the rumbling voice, he makes an intimidating first impression. Phyll's stutter kicks up when he's uncomfortable—which is most of the time, so he rarely speaks. Instead, Phyll's body language does the talking: the awkward fidgeting, those shimmering, expressive eyes ...

Phyll raised along the Molten Scar by a pair of passionate metalworkers. Their shop—part armory, part art studio—remains there to this day. At least, so Phyll assumes; he ought to write home more than once a year. It isn't his parents he wishes to avoid, but the concept of Fire itself. Press him about it and he'll shrug, mumbling something about how, once lit, a flame never really dies. That certainly rings true in Phyll's case—Chlora, hix ex, wound up joining the Tabemono two months after him. Phyll's fire-aversion goes beyond metaphor, though: the guy dreads literal bonfires as much as emotional ones.

Nature, on the other hand, seems to suit Phyll perfectly. He eats his meals out by the edge of the clan's main clearing, where he can pet downy mosses with an absent-minded paw, and his den is filled with plants potted in elaborate metal pots—his parents' handiwork, he'll announce with pride.

Phyll has done a better job of communicating with his three children: Kirin, Theo, and Yoyo. He dutifully writes ahead before visiting the former's Water clan and the latter two's Light one.
