B I O G R A P H Y

Radiance did not hatch from an egg like most dragons. She was "born" during a time of great magical upheaval, when the stars and moons align just right. It is a rare moment, occurring only once every few months, and during this window the deities take advantage of this sudden surge in magic by creating new dragons, ones whose only parents are the deity and the element they were shaped from. These dragons, called "progenitors," are then sent out into the world to create new clans and expand their deities' influence.

Radiance was one such dragon.

The Tidelord Himself made her, building her skeleton from coral and muscles from seaweed. Seawater wrapped around her for skin, and blessed her with the green of algae and the red of fish scales. When she was complete, the Tidelord breathed life into her, and then one of His thousand currents carried her to the surface.

Radiance washed onto the beach as a fully-grown adult, opening her blue eyes for the first time.

She remembers hearing His voice for the first time. Go forth, My daughter, and build a clan. Fill the Sea with life, fight those who would destroy Sorienth's beauty and magic, and let the whole world know the grace and power of Water.

And Radiance obeyed.

She found a small cave made of sandstone and shale in Tsunami Flats, and after a little digging made it big enough to live in. She was soon joined by Gleaming, another dragon created by the Tidelord for the same purpose, and Thistlepuff, an older dragon from an established clan who moved in and taught them the ways of clan life. As time passed, more dragons joined, older dragons looking for a new clan and hatchlings looking for a home, and the clan grew from a group of dragons living in a hole in the ground to a small but respectable clan. A respectable clan needed a respectable name, and so Radiance named it the Clan of Roaring Waters, for the roar of the waves that pounded against their lair and for her dream of proving her clan and Water Flight in general a force to be reckoned with. It was this moment that Radiance realized she had found her Charge - the clan.

Even though she was one of the younger dragons, the rest of the clan still looked to Radiance for leadership since she was the founder. At first the pressure frightened Radiance, who had been born from the Sea and so knew little of dragon society. But the respect in her clanmates' eyes, her protective instincts towards her Charge, and the Tidelord's decree all drove her to be the best leader she could be. Radiance put on a calm and steady persona for her clan, even as she fought her inner doubts and worries. She read every scroll and tablet she could get her hands on, learning about the world around her. She met with dragons from other clans in Water Flight, and later other flights as well, and learned how they did business and ran their lairs. She made the worldly Thistlepuff her advisor, and asked advice from the older dragons in her lair as well. And as she slept she viewed the future in her dreams, and used that foresight (another boon from the Tidelord) to guide her clan.

Slowly, under Radiance's leadership, the clan grew. The Clan of Roaring Waters moved from the now-cramped caves of Tsunami Flats to the expansive Fishspine Reef. When the Shade Plague infected the Sea Radiance moved the clan to the safety of the Leviathan Trench's deeper waters and labyrinthine wall tunnels, and after getting permission from the Tidelord they moved again to a hodge-podge but impressive underwater palace built on the ocean floor, with the Spiral Keep in sight. After the Shade Plague came Radiance decreed that all clan members receive basic battle training to defend themselves, and intensified battle patrols in the Coliseum to drive back Shade-infected monsters.

B I O G R A P H Y

Radiance has come a long way since she took her first steps on dry land. The calm and wisdom she once pretended to have now come naturally. Her own experiences and the experiences of others have taught her a lot, and now she is a competent and capable leader. She is still faithful to the Tidelord, and sends Him exalts whenever Water pushes for conquest or profit. Having been created by a deity and knowing their power firsthand, Radiance believes that being exalted is a high honor, and respects all of the deities - though of course, the Tidelord is first in her heart. Sometimes it still boggles her how her ragtag bunch of dragons grew into a vast clan full of members with specialized skills and personalities, and sometimes she comes across things that remind her there is still much to learn, but now she is confident that she can lead her clan through whatever challenges that lie ahead with wisdom, strength, and grace.

Ever since the Tidelord disappeared, Radiance's leadership has taken a firmer stance. Now more than ever the Clan of Roaring Waters must present a strong and united front. As such, she has ordered that all clan members must train for battle to defend Water Flight from potential threats. She has also moved most of the clan's scouts from bubble-collecting duty, now that the Tidelord is no longer around to create prophecy bubbles, to searching for signs of Tidelord. Like the other Water dragons in the Clan of Roaring Waters, Radiance's Foresight powers have weakened but not faded, giving her hope that her deity is still alive. While she wishes she could help search as well though, she still has a clan to lead - the Clan of Roaring Waters has grown in size despite Rosehip and her followers leaving to found their own clan. When Radiance isn't dealing with the day-to-day responsibilities of leadership, she is building diplomatic relationships with other Water clans and getting more involved with politics in the larger Sea of a Thousand Currents. She knows that with the Tidelord missing and the future so uncertain, Water Flight will need to place their faith in each other.

The Radiant Matriarch

Mate to: Gleaming

Job/role: Clan leader and Matriarch. She leads the Clan of Roaring Waters together with Gleaming and Thistlepuff, though she makes the final decisions. Sometimes she'll take two other "elite warriors" with her and go battle in the Coliseum to unwind.

Charge: the Clan of Roaring Waters. Having the clan for her Charge has taught Radiance how to balance between what is best for an individual clan member and what is best for the clan as a whole. This includes whether it would be best for a dragon to stay in the clan or leave for the Tidelord or other clans. She is constantly looking after the well-being of the clan, and will not tolerate anyone or anything she sees as a threat to the clan's unity and health.

Water foresight: All Water dragons have the gift of foresight from the Tidelord, though the gift expresses itself differently in each dragon. Radiance's gift manifests as prophecies and omens of the future in her dreams. Every time she sleeps she receives dreams filled with symbolism and warnings, and dedicates a part of her day to recording and decoding these dreams so she can prepare the clan for what is to come. Very rarely the Tidelord speaks to her directly, and these warnings she pays extra special attention to.
