Maybe the mushrooms are his familiar's children? lol Neat idea... .

His two wind friends helped him fly. He rationalized that Snappers can-t fly for a good reason, they're just too big, but he still yearnes for it. Maybe he eventually ended up learning how to use arcane magic to fly?
