Amal is a self-described optimistic pessimist - although they’d love to believe that the world can get better, previous experience has told them that it pretty much will not do that. As a result, they’ve developed a rather pragmatic and cynical outlook, and don’t expect much from the people around them. This isn’t to say that they’re rude about it, though; they appreciate acts of kindness and do have a soft side, especially for those who still have such unbounded faith in the world. A writer who became active following an armed robbery in their hometown, Amal Khalaf became known for publishing scathing articles exposing the corruption of local justice systems in several states. Despite their frequent moving, they quickly make a name for themself in every new residence - informants claim that their age makes them approachable, and their drive makes them reliable. Their articles are often paired with stunning photographs; between this and the quality of the writing, their work is considered top-tier wherever they go. In person, however, they're mostly known to be reclusive and recalcitrant - they're only slightly less pessimistic when interacting with contributors than when interacting with larger media entities.
