Biography

You know, I think this guy is due for some work on refreshing his lore. One of my oldest characters...yet has seen my smallest amount of work...yeah, I should stop talking to myself now.

[editing]

___Something was watching you.

[editing]

___"Three in the first clutch. Three strong, healthy little dragons. Try to allow those eyes of yours to betray a little more pride Xha'thal."
___He gave Ahkauris a look. Her happiness seemed almost spiteful to him so soon. "Three out of four." he reminded her.
___Ahkauris snorted quietly in an attempt to not startle the hatchlings that were hardly an hour of age. "Regardless of how uncommon it is for a dragon to produce an empty egg, it is not unheard of. There was no resonance of a familiar mind, no hint of an audible heartbeat. There was never anything in that egg Xha'thal. No hatchling yet died under your watch."
___"I still cannot convince myself of that. It simply feels...wrong. Every time my eyes catch sight of that egg my heart sags slightly. I still see it as a child, I cannot yet shake the disappointment."
___"My love, I can understand why you would not yet be used to being a father of dragons. Put it past yourself. If it would settle your mind to put it out of sight we can burn the shell at dawn."
___Xha'thal stared at the still, misshapen orb for several more heartbeats. "It would put my mind more at ease if we waited until dusk."
___Ahkauris shook her head with a slight smirk on her scaly lips. "Fine, fine. But if I start to smell rot it will be gone all the sooner."
___She lowered her head to hang over her front-most legs and wrap her neck slightly around where the three had gathered. With a wing she shielded them from sight. Xha'thal followed suit, aligning his back to hers. Within a few long moments they both slipped into slumber.

___It was during the night when the fourth egg began to rattle with a strange quiet stillness. Cracks broke across the shell silently, no sound was made even when the shards hit a hard stone floor. The fourth, a male, stumbled on to lie in front of his father, his snout almost aligned with the new hatchling's. It wasn't until the rise of the sun the next morning Xha'thal awoke to realize he was staring into a very new set of eyes.

Vai'ir is a dragon that does more than just thrive in the shadows. He is imbued with silence, defined by darkness. Even to the most perceptive and alert dragons he is unseen and unheard- an almost soft clawed creature that could cross a continent without rustling so much as a blade of grass.

This ability runs deeper than mere skill. Vai'ir's mind holds an ability unlike anything even Xha'thal, his father, has seen before. He has an inherent telepathic ability to cancel the memory of seeing him from ever forming in a dragon's mind, or otherwise. So powerful it was at the time as early as his hatching that he does this without even a trace of conscious effort. Vai'ir must try to be seen, he must try to be heard. A dragon could be staring directly to him and fail to register that he had ever been there. Unless Vai'ir wants to be noticed he is effectively invisible. As a consequence of this, his parents did not even know he existed until his egg cracked. Their ears were practically incapable of registering the sound his heart made as it would beat slowly in his slumber as he developed. They both resolved to keep the egg to safeguard against making an error and killing a hatchling by disposing of it. They were new parents, Vai'ir was of their first four. Both were relieved beyond expression that they had followed the habit once Xha'thal awoke that morning.

Vai'ir still must be somewhat careful. If the light nearby him is too bright and he stands too close to a dragon with no wall behind him his ability does diminishe somewhat- but only so far as to cause a sort of confusion in the dragon he is hiding from. Standing in direct sight too long when, and only when, a dragon is trying to focus his attention to an object or scene that the bulk of Vai'ir's body is blocking from sight may trigger their mind to want to investigate. A dragon physically bumping into him he cannot stop from registering in their mind and could lead to his discovery if he does not break contact.

What a dragon already remembers is of course beyond his reach. Vai'ir is capable of erasing the memory as it is forming, but not once it is already established. To alter established memory is to directly change the foundations for another dragon's personality, and no known being is capable of such a feat.

Incredibly, this is not the sole ability his unparalleled telepathic connection earns him. Vai'ir is able to communicate directly with any creature with a mind capable of contemplating speech. So adept he is with this that language is actually not a barrier for him. Vai'ir takes from the underlying meaning of the words spoken directly off the mind of the speaker, as he is also essentially implanting his thoughts in to the dragons he is 'speaking' to. By the nature of this power, however, puns and plays on words are lost on him. As language is no barrier, the word that is used to manifest a thought is unimportant and will not change the understanding Vai'ir gleans from it.

Still, he is able to alter the words a dragon will hear from him. He can direct the desired meaning of his telepathic thought which will then alter the words his thoughts translate to in the mind of the recipient.

Unfortunately, resistance to spoken humor is not the only cost of Vai'ir's incredible mental ability. Vai'ir is utterly unable to speak in any conventional sense. His throat simply cannot produce any form of identifiable speech. Even his glorious roar is reduced to no more than an angered hiss.

Still as this type of 'speech' does not rely on the development of physical vocal ability, hardly a moon had passed after hatching when Vai'ir was capable of fairly articulate communication. When his siblings were still squeaking their first 'hello' he had already become able to spout a complete, if short, conversation. It did not take long after that for his ability to develop enough that he began to disappear from his parents themselves. He has developed a rather mischievous humor since then. He enjoys relocating himself in a conversation, smiling and nearly laughing as he watches the dragon, or even dragons, he had been speaking to search for him as they are finishing their thoughts.

Apart from this, Vai'ir has gained a reclusive touch to his personality. Once he was capable of flight and thus grew close to the time of being able to completely separate from his parents, sightings of him grew only more rare. To all but the dragons closest to him his personality is a mystery. Even his parent's are not sure if Vai'ir has yet made any effort to finding a mate, or if he ever will.

To the whole of dragonkind, Vai'ir is becoming an almost legendary shadow- always watching, waiting, and listening. His father and mother are the only few that are capable of seeing him in this state with relative ease. Aside from them, evidence of his existence itself is fading. Woe to the dragon that truly infuriates him- for none can foresee his strikes.

Venom inherited from Xha'thal: Vai'ir has patches of incredibly sharp spines that are almost unnoticeable due to their incredibly minuscule size. They are so small and sharp that they are not felt when they are grazed. To the untrained eye they appear simply as rough patches of scale around the last few stretches of his tail and the very tip of his snout. Once grazed across patches of hide with no scale, this venom will enter the bloodstream as a dormant agent until Vai'ir decides it is time for it to be used.

Vai'ir can mentally feel how many victims currently with his venom in the blood. Once Vai'ir triggers that mental link, he would then have complete and unrestricted access to the mind of the victim. Thoughts, intents, plans, and ideas will be as clear as day to him until the venom is subsequently metabolized a few hours after being activated. He will be able to predict every last move any victim will take right down to when they take their next breath. A few of his enemies yet unaware of this ability of his oft immediately noticed that it somehow became even more difficult to land a blow on a dragon that is already synonymous with shadow. They will fight confused and exasperated- That is, until Vai'ir finally shreds their throat.

Alternatively, Vai'ir has choice to instead trigger this venom in to a very different effect. If he chooses to forego the ability to know the victim's mind, he can instead transform the venom into a powerful hallucinogen. The venom will then attach itself to the absolute worst fears of the victim and have them manifest in front of the victim's eyes in the worst way possible. In all but the most hardened of minds this can reduce the victim to a complete breakdown until it wears off. This version of the effects wears off much faster, and oft only lasts a quarter of an hour at most.

Bioluminescence inherited from Ahkauris: He can cause the iris of his eye to almost shine with a brilliant white with a tinge of blue. Being a dragon of dark scale, he can use this to have it seem as a disembodied set of eyes are floating about in the shadows.

Hellbender's eyes barely widen for even a moment, only a tad surprised by the newcomer, "Heh, can't say I have, but I'm nothin' if not always interested by the prospect of tryin' new things. You seem to think yourself quite impressive with your little smoke and mirror tricks there, but clearly that just means ya ain't been around the block enough times. There's all sorts that've come by here with power outrivalin' yours and you think that you can intimidate me? Tsk, look bub, if ya weren't an idiot then you'd realize that I don't care what sort of skills folks think they have, they're all bleedin' morons with overconfident views of themselves, and you're no different. I wonder, has anyone ever told ya how worthless you are as a dragon and clanmate? Here I stand, and I ask, do you think you can handle it?"

Horribly startled by Vaiir's sudden manifestation, Cupcake squeaks and darts behind her favorite tree to watch the males stare each other down. Having heard the dragon's voice in her head, she wonders if it is possible for him to read thoughts as well as speak them, and she so she thinks as hard as she can, Please be safe, both of you, please don't hurt each other. Hell, you might be strong but you don't have any magic, let alone any magic that could stand against his. And sir, you are clearly a powerful mage of some kind, but Hell's strength is something that, although he keeps hidden, is terrifying to see once in action. Please don't fight, please don't fight, please don't fight... Her last words turn into a sort of mantra, a prayer to the Eleven that the males will simply posture for a while but leave each other unscathed.

Just...just look at this guy! I just want to persuade him to come to my lair ;u; He's an utterly magnificent old shadow man who not only rocks some older genes but some stunning older colors as well. Plus he has a shadow sprite?! That is my ultimate dream familiar so I'm literally speechless at this guy.... ;; I love how the different shades of purple match his eyes and contrast so well against his obsidian skin . He looks so vibrant and shiny! The emblem and armband are my favorite pieces of apparel, though I do think the birdskull wingpiece looks cool as well. From a glance it sort of looks like shadowy goo dripping off his wings since it blends in so well with their coloration c:
I truly do love the shadow flight, so reading about how is a "legendary shadow" just made me so happy ;;u;; I think he was simply amazing since birth! What a glorious surprise it must have been for his dad to wake up only to see him unexpectedly in front of his face! Plus, the fact that he's a child of the clan leaders makes him even more respectable and valuable. I admire both of his abilities, especially his way of communicating. It's a true characteristic of a shadow dragon, and it made me smile to see that he even uses it to mess with others ^-^ I also like how he became more mysterious with age, using his flight ability to remain unseen. He really is an impressive shadow boy! I've also liked seeing the Hell/Cupcake interactions in the bio of the dragons you've sent me when available, and the one in Vaiir's bio has got to be a favorite of mine. It's a reminder that while some dragons may look physically stronger, no one knows the true power of what a shadow dragon can do to your mind. It illustrated just how mysterious and intimidating Vaiir can be. This guy is probably my favorite that you've shown me so far! Madrak is a really nice dragon too, but Vaiir has an advantage because he's shadow >;3 Like I said before, the lore you write hasn't disappointed me~
