Dream
Queen of the Deep Seas
Dream
she/her
The Queen of the Deep Seas has had a long and hard journey. She and her remaining followers are stationed near the Drowned Sanctum, a rich haven of elemental energy underseas where the leylines are strongest. Here, she lay to rest, and lies in wait
for the return of the Tidelord.
Dream always stood out among her fellow dragonets, even as a hatchling. She seemed more mature than her peers, using language and poise that was not common for young dragons. But strangest of all is that she always seemed to have her mind somewhere else. Her parents noticed that she may have the ability to see, so they watched her carefully and tried to let her cultivate it. They tried their best, but only she knew how to train herself in this ability. For in the cold nights, when the stars were the only lights to reach her in the deep sea, is when she dreamed her prophecies.
When her parents realized this, her name was changed. She doesn't remember what it was before, but it doesn't matter now. What matters is that her prophecies changed everything for her. She was elevated to higher education, brought to beastclans and other dragons alike. Her words now had impact, and the ones who would hear them would act upon them. She saw many things in her dreams, some good things, some bad things, some things that no child would even comprehend. But when the terrors came, she did her best to explain it to the ones she trusted, mainly her parents. She clutched her Tidelord sackdoll a little closer on those nights, when she feared that her dreamscape would be unexplainable or that it would all come crashing down.
When she grew up, she still had her dreaming visions, and was still in high position to dispense them. All kinds of dragons trusted her sight, her instinct. She became a queen. Attendants came to serve her, maids and butlers and all kinds of other dragons were at her beck and call. Despite all the attention, sometimes she felt like an impostor. The other royals had true impact on their subjects' lives. Her role was just a title. But her dreams kept coming, so she kept telling her wisdoms and sights, and her life was lavishly decorated.
One night, disaster swept the whole Water flight. The Tidelord disappeared in a drastic storm. The dragons all about her were whispering in fear, not just for their deity, but also for their queen. For the first time in a long while, she had a nightmare that chilled them all.
After that horrible night, suddenly, her dreams went silent. The worst had come - she no longer had the means to maintain her kingdom. Without her prophecies, she feared they would call her a fraud and reject her. One lonely, sleepless week was spent trying to dream again, but to no avail. She was not the same.
In her darkest depths, feeling truly alone, she swam away, taking only the spare robes she had, and some jewelry to perhaps sell. She thought that no one was watching, and desperately hoped so, but her court advisor Democritus saw her flight and also followed after. At first she was upset that he pursued her, but his loyalty won her over and she allowed him to stay. And besides, he was usually the one with the plans. And he did have a plan, to follow the elemental leylines and access the stronger magic. Hopefully then, they could commune with the Tidelord once more. Dream had no other ideas, so she agreed.
They travelled on the ocean floor for quite some time, and finally they rested in a niche close to the Drowned Sanctum. She could feel the energy in her heart, and she knew Democritus could feel it too. Although it seemed hopeless, she was too tired to do much else and tried to sleep again. Despite the comfort of the water magic, no dreams appeared to her. But at least she could rest, at least for a little while.
Some time passed, and many other dragons flocked to her side, some from her old kingdom and others of their own volition. When some had mated, she requested that their children would become exalted unto the Tidelord in hopes of finding him, or somehow helping her kingdom expand. Her people obliged, and their numbers slowly grew.
One lonely night, without so much a word... Dream fell into another slumber, and her dreamscape awakened once more. But this time it was too powerful, and something captured her within sleep. She couldn't free herself from the dream, no matter how hard she tried. The other dragons of her court were conflicted. They were happy to see that she dreamed again, but since she did not yet wake, she could not tell them about their future, or what happened to Tidelord. So they wait beside her, doing their best to keep her alive until she wakes once more.
