"Fear not, for you have been chosen!"

The Nexxus was once of flesh and blood, a devout follower of an ancient Arcane cult who believed that life on Sornieth was seeded by entities from another world. These interdimensional beings would one day return to judge what has become of the planet, rewarding dragons who have lived fruitful and honorable lives, and punishing those who have squandered the sacred gift that was bestowed upon the eleven deities many eons ago.

In it's past life, The Nexxus was a scientist and a powerful believer, whose deep faith and mystic rituals eventually brought forth something beyond comprehension, a creature without name or substance. It visited the dragon and showed him things, things that destroyed his mind before he could even blink; all of time itself, spread out before him like a living map. Past, present and future co-existing simultaneously, like sheets of paper stacked one on top of another, every crease and fold rippling outward to create an endless cycle of cause and effect.

But these metaphysical wonders were not meant for the eyes of mortals, and the scientist's body simply drifted apart like smoke, the atoms coming lose and falling away from each other in shock. The dragon ascended then, and as an astral spirit he merged with the visiting entity, and ceased being a him, for he no longer had a body of flesh. Genderless, formless; The Nexxus was born. It traveled from world to world, opening rifts in space and time to move between dimensions, every corner of every universe open for exploration.

Occasionally, The Nexxus will revisit Sornieth, seeking those that may be worthy; scientists, priests, explorers, warriors and more - those who are awake to their own potential and never stop striving to experience more. These individuals may be chosen to ascend to the astral plane, joining a collective consciousness which will absorb the sum total of each existence and process the knowledge. Then Nexxus then moves on, continuing to spread its celestial influence wherever it goes.
