MATRIARCH One of the Six founding members of the Clan and member of the Guard

Beetle left her mother's nest as a hatchling, eager to explore the world and find the her charge. She explored the Flights along the coast, and on her adventures, she met Marmalade, Arc, Peri, Mirza, and Tariqe. All were hatchlings at the time, some cast out of their homes, some just exploring like Beetle. The six became close companions, and fantasized about founding their own clan one day, not realizing that they could. When they did, they decided to settle at the edge of the Ashfall Waste, close enough to the Arcane realm for Mirza and Marmalade to go home, and just across the sea from Beetle's birth clan. So the Soot Snout clan was founded, and Beetle appointed the leader, as she was naturally talented for the role. She has since made it into a small but happy clan, welcoming in all those who wander. She deeply loves and appreciates all members, and cares most of all for her five closest friends, who form the Council. When Beetle isn't busy, she works as the clan's blacksmith. She finds the hard work relaxing, as banging hot metal with all her strength is quite de-stressing. While she is quite regal and dignified, she has a rougher side, and enjoys getting her paws dirty, or fighting in friendly brawls (usually Beetle and Arc vs. Taika and Orion) with clanmates. Says it keeps her skills sharp, muscles toned, and ready to defend her clan at moment's notice. Beetle is quite formidable in battle due to her size and strength. She could have appointed herself leader of the guard, but when Taika joined the Clan, she was a clear choice. She is far better at strategy, while Beetle simply uses brute force. So when the time comes to battle, Beetle will humbly follow Taika's plan along with all other fighters of the Clan. Beetle is a natural leader, but she solidly depends on the support of the Council to lead, and knows she couldn't do it without them. When Beetle is faced with a particularly difficult issue, she can get overwhelmed by all the little problems and imperfections. Along with that, she often doubts herself and her decisions. So when something is too much for her to handle on her own, she summons her closest friends to come up with a solution. Beetle has thought many times about leading her clan to a flight that would suit her dragons better, like Lightning or Wind, but has decided against it every time. And though she enjoys being a safe distance away from other Fire clans, she realized she has a deep love of the Fire Flight. She loved the possibilities of being both a raging power and a soft, warm light. She enjoys its relatively small Flight size, and its fierce loyalty to the Flamecaller. Additionally, she loves seeing the warm sparkle of a Fire hatchling's golden eyes, sometimes with tints of pale blue or deep crimson. Beetle searched and settled with the Clan before finding her charge, but the moment she first saw Daphne, she knew she had found her. She is fiercely protective of the odd little Coatl, and loves her dearly. She is not at all deterred by Daphne's strange hums, and the two have developed their own way of communicating, making Beetle one of the few members of the clan who can actually understand her. When Daphne isn't busy doing important Daphne business, she is by the Guardian's side, cheering her up throughout the day or calming her down.
