The statue at the crossroads of the Pass of Caradhras is the subject of much debate, speculation and rumor. Few things are known for certain. It is generally accepted that the statue exists and depicts a life-sized coatl dragon standing at the base of the mountain leading up to the Northern outpost. The statue appears to be made of dark marbled stone and often, but not always, has a covering of cobwebs, weeds, or wildflowers.

Some swear that the statue moves from time to time, from a change in pose to eyes that follow passersby. Rumors have also circulated about travellers hearing voices when lingering too close. At times it's said that the statue disappears entirely.

It's become customary for traveller's to leave offerings of food, flowers, small trinkets and other such treasures at the base of the statue for good luck before ascending to the outpost of Caradhras.
