Tussard is not a living thing.

It's hard to believe this at times because she certainly acts like a dragon. She can speak and interact with the world. She even, once -- very confusingly -- laid an egg, although nothing much came of it.

But Tussard was not born the way that dragons are born, nor like humans or beasts. She was created, an amazing feat of magical engineering. Who created her, and to what purpose, is a mystery. She has no memory of her creator or, indeed, of anything before the moment Bazyl repaired her. As far as anyone knows, she may have lain among the ruins of the Hewn City for ages before being discovered and repaired...a thought which raises unnerving questions of its own.
