Matriarch |

B I O G R A P H Y
_____It isn't that she doesn't care for her clanmates; in fact, it’s quite the opposite. Underneath her viciousness is a fierce love for those surrounding her, and there is very little she would not do for them. The dragons that she travels consistently with are those that she trusts with her life, and those that try and follow her pack without her permission are often met with snarling teeth and angry, ripping claws. She will not hesitate to remove a dragon that she feels is a threat to the clan's overall safety, and those that she's scorned do well to keep their distance from their matriarch. It's because of her concern for her small family that she urges them to keep their distance from other clans, preferring to choose caution over unnecessary aggression. While she is not afraid, she knows that one misguided draconic rival has the potential to do her clanmates great harm. She herself has been near-death on more than one occasion at the hand of another dragon, and she bears the shredded wings and dark scars to prove it. |

_____Not all her decisions for clanmates have been good ones, and she’s done her best to make sure her family hasn’t suffered for it. Some decisions just came too late (the roles that Birdskull and Tixtet fill would have been lifesaving if they’d joined earlier, for example) some were made too quickly, and some were twisted by fate into something that never should have been. Odahviing remembers every face that was once family, and they all haunt her in one form or another. The most recent one still follows her clan, and while Odahviing fights to keep Sonom at a distance, the monstrosity that was once the caregiver of her hatchlings remains breathing for reasons the matriarch will not explain. Though Sonom has done more damage to Odahviing than any other - their last fight ended with Odahviing and Sonom both in the Wyrmwound with Alduin dragging them out, a tragedy that left all three changed forever - Odahviing can’t bring herself to kill the dragon who was once one of her closest friends. Perhaps she leaves her alive to remind her that forgiveness is always wanted but rarely deserved from those who desert her and her pack. |

_____Odahviing has never known a time when survival wasn’t difficult. A birth defect left her strange and twisted, with bony protrusions ringing her skull and teeth permanently exposed over the flesh of her lips, and her birth clan abandoned her before she could even fly, leaving her to die in the unforgiving expanse of the Scarred Wasteland. For days, she wandered alone, scavenging what she could and taking refuge whenever she had the chance; but it wasn't enough - and when she collapsed on the shore of the Sea of a Thousand Currents, she was sure that the day that was dawning would be her last, and when the small guardian approached her, she struggled to put distance between herself and him, using the last of her energy to try and keep him at bay. Her last sight was his face coming closer and closer to hers, clawmarks evident where she'd managed to kick him directly on the snout - but Alduin was tenacious even then, and a bellyful of fish later Odahviing found herself indebted to the young dragon. When she prepared to leave the beach, he followed her, and she found it hard to discourage him. After all, he'd just saved her life! |
_____Nowadays, Odahviing’s settled into a comfortable rhythm with her clan and the world around them. She knows the paths she must take, the actions that must be done, and she maintains the peace...at any cost. The burden of being matriarch is one she wears well, and she never takes her responsibilities lightly; and the clan, in turn, has profited under her leadership. She will do whatever she can to ensure that she remains in the position she’s earned, if only because she knows she will always do what’s best for her clan. |
