Patience is a virtue. Impatience is a killer.

Skin fell from her hands and feet, sides split open at the tension, tail torn apart and her face could not heal from the strain. Skin kept rotting from her visage, never recovering, never returning, bleeding and oozing and straining. Her once proud imperial body was contorted and twisted into its new shape and it wouldn't hold; it wouldn't take; it tore her to shreds. Beautiful gleaming scales were dulled and rough, and veins began to grow visible in her once glittering wings. The transformation was a mistake. Too much too soon; she never listened when she was told she shouldn't speed up her transformation.

The vanity that drove her into seeking out the shape she so lusted after was to be her downfall. Her dreams of becoming a pearlcatcher died that day. As did she. Her heart still kept beating despite the pain but she would never be the same. She would never again wear fancy garments and attend luxury parties, no, all she now sought was to battle and main, turn those she fought into equally scarred abominations. Merah traded in her silks for armour, her gemstone combs for weapons, and her sanity for bloodlust.

Her story became a cautionary tale among noble circles; a lesson in patience. No longer is her name used among dragons, only what she has become: the faceless pearlcatcher.
