Byron learned his craft from his teacher, Katsura, although he always thought his works differed vastly. Where Katsura transcribed in verbatim and calculated precision, Byron would use his words to decorate the truth and capture the attention of more than just record keepers. His excellence with both the written and spoken word, especially among female dragons, was renown among his clans.

And so, he excelled in such creative ventures, but he still stayed closer to writing about stories of his clan's history, which pleased his teacher greatly. She looked forward to having a protege that might interest the new hatchlings in their clan's history; something that the rigid scrolls she taught from rarely seemed to do.

Although young, his talents grew and so did his interests in even the more darker aspects of his clan. It led him into seek out Cascia, the clan's seer, for knowledge. Despite the Coatl's habit of staying clear of others, Byron insisted in visiting Cascia.

Eventually, his persistence proved victorious, and Cascia's stillness and silence broke. All he said was unintelligible, of course, and the words might have been lost forever if not for the presence of Miriam, a fellow seer, to translate them.

"Seek, but not seek, the forgotten and profane, the arcane fool banished to the Eternal Space. Find him writ by the victors of time." Something strange glowed beneath the hood Cascia wore, but Byron was unsure if it was his eyes or something else.

"What was once truth has faded into legend, legend into ruins, but before ruins into dust," here, Cascia shuddered, but continued on even as Miriam worried. "Before that comes to pass, you are to find all you can about The Fool, for it will lead you to knowledge of The Dark in time."

"The Dark?" Byron finally found his voice, but Cascia closed himself off once more and retreated to the shadows of Somnus Cave.

Ever since that day, Byron flew into a frenzied search for all the things of which Cascia spoke, even visiting the reclusive Coatl in hopes of more clues. Alas, Cascia remained silent, but Byron still kept up the contact, even if it was greatly one-sided. Even Katsura, in all her matronly knowledge, was unable to shed much light on the subject.

He inquired among friends of Katsura's, at her introduction of them through letters, and managed to find out from one of them the key word that would set him on the right path.
