The words repeat themselves, like a mantra, in this pathetic Ridgeback's brain. Her eyes, ear holes, mouth and nostrils repeatedly bleed with the psychic overload of her father's powerful presence, and her will has been all but destroyed by his constant mental destruction. She is not far by a mere extension of his own will, a puppet to be controlled as if she were only a mere limb. But not yet. Not yet. She still may have time. She still may be able to escape. It only requires the right moment, the right clan, the right split second of her father's inattention.

Then she will run, and run, and run, and never, ever look back.

She spent many months - maybe years? - hiding in the Shifting Expanse. Trying to fight off her father's compulsion. Spending many hours in a quaking, shivering ball of terror.

But finally, she lost the battle. She returned to her homeland. However, she scored a small victory: she managed to resist the urge to seek out her father and his clan. She took refuge with another clan of Light. Until the compulsion once again drove her to flee...
