"What is it you seek from the Druamer Den?"
iceshade.png - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Thebis is one of the original clans' founders. He guards the entrance to the Draumer den and is the first dragon most visitors encounter. It is by his choice whether a dragon is allowed sanctuary within the den. How he chooses is largely unknown. He asks only one question, a simple “what do you hope to find here” and sends them on in. What few of the dens residents know is that those that make it to the door have already passed whatever tests Thebis has set for them. Their trial begins once they reach the Great Pine Valley. Thebis, well versed in camouflage observes them from a distance and 'encourages’ them to seek shelter elsewhere if at any point it appears that that would do the lair any harm. He spends his days buried in the snow shelf above the lair's entrance using his magic and the environment to sense potential threats and new arrivals as they trudge through the valley snow.

Though technically one of the clan's founders Thebis has more or less just followed the whims of his charge Argonia. When he found her during his Search she had already become part of a crew aboard a small but productive scavenging ship. Since he couldn’t convince her away from the dangers of the open ocean he decided to follow her and make her ambitions his priority. They sailed together with her crew for a time but after a chance encounter with a castaway dragon named Aion, Argonia ported her ship and went ashore in search of treasure. The Draumer Den clan was born of that search and from the few crew members that remained.

Thebis has changed much since his return from service. His scales have become rough and craggy and in some places permanently blistered from prolonged exposure to heat. Thebis is soot-stained. A condition that often plagues dragons less suited for the caustic air that hangs over the Ashfall wastes and leaves them with a blackened hide. He bears all the scars of an Ice dragon made to fight on the Black Sand Beaches of the fire flight’s homeland. Thebis is large even by Guardian standards with an impressive wingspan but he’s become surprisingly thin for a Guardian and must rely on strong magic to get the upper hand rather than throwing his weight around as most Guardians might. His silent movements and large presence make him an intimidating figure and he's not an opponent to be taken lightly. Fortunately, his gentle and patient temperament means fighting is only used as last resort.

While guarding the lair’s entrance is his primary duty Thebis’s official title is Enforcer. The Draumer Den has few actual laws and leans more towards an honor-based system that actually works surprisingly well but, on the off chance a fight breaks out or a law is broken, it is Thebis’s job to make sure things are resolved as peacefully as possible. During meetings with other clans he stands vigil as a silent reminder to keep conversations civil or risk being tossed out into the snow. During the height of winter when the snows make the valley impassable Thebis cures his cabin fever by attending to area’s of the lair that might have fallen into disrepair in the warmer months.

Thebis’s family situation is a sad affair. Once their clan became land-bound he and Argonia attempted their first clutch. Unfortunately, the clan was beset by a vicious pack of Nochnyr and only one of three eggs survived the attack. Their second clutch fared even worse and were all infertile as a result of an illness the struck the lair shortly before the nest was made. This second tragedy devastated Thebis and Argonia’s relationship but neither would leave the clan. Eventually, their daughter Theonia decided to enter the service of the Icewarden, a great honor that took years of training. Thebis was proud to see her go as well as somber. Some years later while patrolling his territory Thebis stumbled upon a Guardian hatchling that had been wandering the Icefields by itself. Thebis returned to the Den with the hatchling in tow and the clan raised him. One day Thebis and Argonia received a letter from their daughter Theonia proclaiming that war would be coming and she would be fighting on its front lines. Argonia immediately left to join the Icewarden's forces and unable to leave his charge followed her. They returned afterward weary and battle-scarred.

The Fortress of Ends Excavation

Thebis, like Argonia, was not thrilled to Learn that Marco had gone against the collective will of the clan and continued to excavate beyond the sites closing but upon seeing the injuries Marco had obtained as a result Thebis decided he had reaped his reward. In some small way, Thebis is grateful to return to his home in the Icefield's though he would much rather have come home to find his son there waiting for him. [/font]
