Biography

Romeo: Juliet is up there, and I must go see her. Protect me Benvolio, I'm going up.
Benvolio: *gumbles* This isn't going to end well is it?
Romeo: What are you talking about, this is a great plan! We're just two certain families who want to come together! It isn't that bad.
Benvolio: Those two certain families also want either side dead.
Romeo: We'll worry about that when we get there. So. *looks up* Crystalspine peak, here I come! *starts to climb*
Benvolio: YOU HAVE WINGS FOR GOODNESS SAKE. USE THEM.
Romeo: I need to make a good impression, you know. Not taking the easy way out?
Benvolio: She's also going to think that you're stupid for not flying up there.
Romeo: *shouts* What? I can't here you up here!
Benvolio: *sighs* Nothing.
*Awkward Silence as Romeo climbs*
Benvolio: Oh by name of the Lightweaver ROMEO WRONG MOUNTAIN GOSH DARN IT.

Ever since Benvolio came searching for Romeo, he's been sticking by Mercutio and his cousin ever since, either being a good companion or to save their sorry little behinds every single time they get in trouble. Benvolio attempts to act as Romeo's sense of reason, but Romeo sometimes ignores him, calling him his "baby cousin" and "the little pacifist", even though a.) Benvolio is older than Romeo and b.) Romeo once decided to waltz into a Centaur's camp chasing butterflies, and Benvolio had to get him out of there, so it sounds more like he's the one saving you here Romeo.

On the day that Mercutio died, the entire clan was distraught, but Benvolio spent his time in his room and locked the door. Everyone assumed that he was also in depression for he was his best friend, but after that he didn't seem bothered when other dragons would mention his name, unlike Romeo who would fall on the floor bawling and crying over the loss of his friend. How... interesting.

Spartacus: *sighs* Ever since Mercutio left, I don't have anyone to spar with. The main 4 are off training the younglings, and Ezo's too strong. I got no one to beat into a pulp now.
Romeo: *drops to the floor and starts lamenting* MERCUTIO WHY YOU WERE MY BEST FRIEND WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE YOU!
Benvolio: *under his breath* he's fine now stop crying on the floor and get up
Romeo: *perks up* What did you say Benvolio?
Benvolio: NO NOTHING Mercutio's dead Romeo crying won't help.
Romeo: *falls on the floor and continues to cry*

Benevolio also has been seen trying to stop Romeo from ever entering Queen's clan, insisting that they might be dangerous and the amount of nocturnes flying around would drive him insane.

“Benvolio! I’m back!”

Benvolio lay asleep on the floor.

“BENVOLIO! I’M BACK!”

“Hm? Oh! Hey!” Benvolio yawned. “I see you’re back. How did it go?”

“I’ve got one day to arrange our marriage. Quick! Let’s go!”

That woke Benvolio up. He jumped. “WHAT?! Romeo! It was ONE DAY! You met her ONE
DAY ago! Are you thinking straight?”

“I am perfectly sane. I’ve never felt better.”

“That’s not a good sign.” Benvolio growled and ruffled his feathers. “I guess there’s nothing
stopping you. Let’s get home, shall we?”

The two dragons stretched their wings, and took off soaring through the sky.

Gliding over the bay, Benvolio started to slow down. Up ahead, Romeo flew, darting through
the sky and dancing through the clouds, whooping and laughing. No surprise. However, Romeo needed advice. And Benvolio would give him said advice.

“Romeo, wait up.”

Romeo turned. The sun reflected off his wings, creating a blindingly white light. Benvolio
turned away from the glow.

“We need to talk.”

“Sure. Shoot for it. What’s on your mind?”

The coatl flew up to the skydancer. He carefully avoided gazing at his wings. “I didn’t tell you
the whole story. Of… well the reason why we hate each other. Why the clans of the Capulet and the Montagues are divided.”

“Tell me about it. I know what happened that day. Some Capulets flew by and burned down
our clan. We all survived the fire, but that was a call to war. That’s why the three of us fled, remember? After fighting for so long, we didn’t know what to make of it anymore. We could never find peace.”

“The Capulets didn’t burn down the clan for no reason Romeo. It was out of love. And
vengeance.”

“Vengeance? What did we ever do to them?”

“Correction. What have I ever done to them.”

“What have YOU ever done to them? Are you saying that this was because of YOU?” Romeo
expression soured. “Explain. From the top.”

“Romeo, this is a lesson for you, and you alone. If this happens again, we might pit these
Goldenstorm against Arkana’s clan. These two clans alone are much stronger than the Capulets and Montagues combined. You need to stay committed to Juliet. Do not stray from her side. No more of the flirty and Prince Charming business. Marriage seals the deal.”

Benvolio turned away from Romeo, avoiding looking at him in the eyes. His expression was
hard to read. Was that guilt?

“A few weeks before the Capulet’s attack, I met a beautiful young skydancer. Marigold was
her name. A oilslick skink damsel. Gorgeous. She also had the personality to match. Very kind. Humorous too. But she was a jealous girl, just like her brother, Tybalt. You should be able to recall her name. She was kind of a big deal.”

“We met near a waterfall that connected the Sunbeam Ruins with the Sea of a Thousand
Currents. A couple days later, we fell in love. I remember sitting under the starlight, Marigold grooming my feathers while I told her stories of dragon folklore. Stories of heroes wandering far and wide into beastclan territory. Stories of tragedy and heartbreak, and of course, stories of love.” Benvolio starred dreamily into the horizon. “The Capulets approved of this. Even Tybalt. We used to be great friends you know. Not as deep as what I had with you and Mercutio, but I still could’ve trusted him with my life.”

“Then, I met another dragon. Another coatl. We shared the same interests, and I strayed away
from Marigold’s side. I started to have an affair with the other dragon behind her back. I started to love her instead. She was something different, while Marigold grew boring. I was tired of doing the same things over and over again, and was more than willing to try something new.”

“Then, Marigold found out. She discovered a gift that the coatl had sent to me from afar. We
had a huge argument. Tybalt started to get involved. At first, he pleaded with me. Wanted me to stay with her and not break her heart. Like I said, he was truly a jealous dragon. Then, he blew into a rage, and our friendship shattered. As well as my relationship with Marigold. I broke two hearts that day, Tybalt’s and Marigold’s. I left her heartbroken, and being the heartless idiot that I once was, I did nothing and left with the other dragon.”

“My relationship with the coatl didn’t last long after that. She left me for another dragon, but
deep down in my heart, I knew that I had left her early on, for I started to long for Marigold once again. I went back to the Capulet’s place, begging to see her again, but they shut their doors and barred me out. I never saw Marigold ever since. A few days later, the Capulets set our home ablaze.”

“You need to prove to Tybalt that you are better than I was. You also need to stay committed
to Juliet. She’s a wonderful girl Romeo, and whatever you do, do not leave her. I hurt Tybalt and Marigold Romeo, and if you dare hurt Juliet, I fear I will bear the guilt as well.” Benvolio broke his gaze with Romeo, and turned away from his friend.

Silence fell across the ocean. The waves crashed together, turning and jostling in the wind.

“I wish I could cry with you Benvolio. I can feel your pain.”

Benvolio grumbled, his voice breaking. “Romeo, stop your joking. This is no time for games.”

“Look at me in the eyes Benvolio.” Romeo flew around and confronted Benvolio. “I would
shout and scream at you, but you learned. You understood your errors, and you tried to fix them. What had been done in the past cannot be undone. Preventing the past from repeating itself can be done. Strive to stop future errors, not to fix past ones.”

“You told me what you had done Benvolio. That takes courage. Thank you for sharing this
with me bud. I will keep this in mind, I assure you. Hey, hey. Benvolio, wipe those tears away. Be strong. You did all that you could. That’s what matters.”

Benvolio rested his head on Romeo’s side. “Thank you cousin. You’re the best.”

Romeo smiled. “Let’s go find a friar, shall we?”

The two cousins then flew off into the horizon, flying as quickly as they could. United in heart
and mind, a coatl and skydancer together as one.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I was trying to SAVE you Juliet, and THIS is how you repay me?”
Tybalt, shakily gripping his sword, stormed into Juliet’s room. The blade was pointed right at
Juliet’s neck. One move, and it would be all over.
“Tybalt, Romeo is perfect for me! He could do no wrong! I promise! Could you put away an
old grudge? For me?”
“Benvolio once said that as well. See where that brought me. You’re all I have left Juliet. I
can’t afford to lose you as well.”
“What has he done to you anyway? I’ve met him myself! He’s a strong, sensible coatl who
cares for the wellbeing of others! He could do no wrong!”
“A STRONG SENSIBLE COATL WHO CARES FOR THE WELLBEING OF OTHERS?
BLASPHEMY! UTTER BLASPHEMY!” He took one step forward. Juliet felt the cold steel pressing against her neck. “HE TORE OUR FAMILY APART JULIET! THE WAR BETWEEN THE TWO CLANS! BENVOLIO STARTED IT ALL! DO NOT SPREAK TO ME OF BENVOLIO DOING NO WRONG!”
“Romeo is a different person Tybalt. I know a gentleman when I see one.”
The two skydancers circled each other. Juliet quietly reached to her bed, and clutched the
hilt of her dagger.
“What makes Romeo different from the other two? They’re three jesters, prancing off into the
sunset. Three flirting phonies, controlling young girls by the ends of their fingers. Three beasts, who feast by charming you then ripping your heart out. He’s all the same Juliet. Love is no toy, and they treat it like a plaything.”
“You’re insane.” Juliet whipped out her dagger, and aimed it at his forehead.
“And you are a fool.”
Tybalt, in a flash, sliced Juliet’s wrist. She screamed, and dropped her dagger. Then, with a
flick of a wrist, he hit it in midair. The dagger impaled itself through her wing, pinning it to the wall.
Without a word, Tybalt slammed her bookshelf, and it toppled downwards. The sound of
wood crunching filled the room, and the books spilled across the floor. He then pushed it towards the window, sealing it off. With her wing sliced, she wouldn't be able to push it away due to her injuries, much less fly with them.
Tybalt turned around and flew out. On the other side, he found a boulder and pushed it to the
door, sealing her in. He then took off into the sky, bent on revenge, leaving a bleeding and crying skydancer behind, locked off in her own tower.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“I can’t believe that Romeo is actually going with this Benvolio. He’s absolutely insane!”

“Well believe it Mercutio. He’s already gone seeking a friar. There’s no stopping him now.”

It was noon. Once Benvolio and Romeo came back, the three of them were tasked with
hunting food for the clan. Once they were out of sight, an encouraging Benvolio and a very doubtful Mercutio sent Romeo on his way to find a priest to secure his marriage with Juliet. Benvolio spotted something moving through the grass, and quickly sniped up a quail. He stuffed it in the sack behind him.

“How many more poor creatures do we need again?”

“We’ll return when our sacks are full.” Mercutio picked up a flat rock and examined it in his
hand. “If I painted this green and said that it was a turtle, how long do you think it’ll take for the rest of the clan to find out?”

“Not very, I can tell you that much.”

“BENVOLIO!”

The coatl quickly turned around. Oh this can’t be good.

Standing in the sun with his sword drawn around 50 meters away, Tybalt stormed towards
the two friends, his wing banners bellowing in the wind. There was blood on his sword. Benvolio decided he better not question who it was from.

Mercutio started to advance but Benvolio blocked him off with his wing.

“Tybalt. What a surprise. What brings you here today?”

“You know what Benvolio. Vengeance. You took my sister away from me, and now your
friend is trying to take Juliet. She’s all I have left Benvolio. Have you no shame?”

Tybalt continued to advance. He showed no intent on stopping.

“Tybalt, this was 3 years ago. It hurt me as much as it hurt you, maybe even more so. Let’s
not bring this up again shall we? I know what I did, and I deeply regret my choices. If there was anything I could do to make it up to you, I would gladly do so.”

“It will NEVER hurt you as much as how much it hurt me. She died Benvolio!”

Benvolio eyes widened, and he stumbled back.

“She fell sick after you left her. 3 days later, she died of grief. She’s GONE Benvolio. And now
you will pay. WITH YOUR LIFE.””

“Then so be it.”

Benvolio dipped his head down. Tybalt broke into a running sprint, then into flight, his feet
barely missing the ground. The skydancer pulled back his blade, and prepared to deal the blow. The coatl closed his eyes, waiting for the for the strike. A strange calmness blew over him, and he was perfectly still.

CLANG

Benvolio opened his eyes. Mercutio intercepted the strike, parried, and thrusted his rapier,
pushing Tybalt back.

“Benvolio might be ready to die, but I do not allow it. If you want to kill him…” Mercutio
posed in a fighting stance, on his guard. “…you’ll have to get through me.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“I would be happy to oblige.” Tybalt crackled madly. “But I am afraid that the cards are not in
your favor, Mercutio.”
Mercutio stretched out his hand and beckoned him forward. “Bring it.”
Tybalt launched himself up, and dove straight down towards the skydancer. Mercutio
sidestepped, and barely blocked the blow. He whipped around and slammed Tybalt away with his tail, sending him tumbling though the tall grass. It had begun.
The skydancers charged towards each other, and started to duel in the hot sun. The ringing
of metal resounded all around them, sending creatures of all shapes and sizes fleeing in terror. Mercutio jabbed at Tybalt, but the masked skydancer flicked his wrist and knocked it out of reach. Using the tip of his wing, he punched Mercutio in the face. As he stumbled back, Tybalt advanced.
Mercutio then decided to take off into the skies, and Tybalt gave chase. After creating quite
some distance, Mercutio turned around, back facing the sun. Tybalt, realizing his mistake a bit too late, was blinded by the sun’s rays. Mercutio then came down upon him, and slashed his wing. Tybalt roared in defiance, but he already started to fall.
Right when the skydancer was about to reach the ground, Mercutio tackled into him from the
side. Tybalt tumbled back on the grass, hurt, but thankfully not dead. He wasn’t willing to kill Tybalt. After all, what would killing the skydancer bring him?
Mercutio picked up Tybalt’s fallen sword, and tossed it towards him.
“Pick up your sword, we’re not done yet.”
Tybalt grabbed the hilt and quickly stood up. His right wing was battered. A fresh new bump
started to form on his forehead.
“You’re a fool, just like the others. You didn’t have to die for him, but now you will.”
They darted towards each other again, swinging their swords in the scorching sun.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“Benvolio, there is a difference between being a coward and a peacemaker. I don’t think you’re
leaning towards being a peacemaker.”

Romeo grabbed Benvolio shoulder. “Oh for goodness sake. GET UP!” He grabbed him, and
turned him around.

“What’s the difference Romeo? I just want to end this. I don’t want to be involved in this
anymore. My death would stop Tybalt’s wrath. For your sake, I will be willing to make peace.”

“You’re avoiding the situation, trying to find the easy way out. That is what a coward does.
Even if you died, Goldenstorm would never forgive this. It’ll be like the Capulets and the Montagues again. Pull yourself together Benvolio. Death is never the answer. Where’s that strong, confident coatl that I know? He’s in there somewhere. Pull him out Benvolio, and put this cowardice away. This is no time to wallow in your sorrows.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mercutio twirled around and brought his hilt down on Tybalt’s head. The skydancer fell to the
ground, and Mercutio stepped back. Tybalt slowly pushed his bruised body back up. He was breathing heavily, matted in sweat.
“I’m…not…done…with you…”
“Persistent? Give up Tybalt. You’ve lost. Benvolio already atoned for his sins. Look at him.
Look what you’ve done.”
He gestured to Benvolio, who shakily regained balance and stood up. Romeo stood by,
helping him stand.
“Romeo, you’re back. Did you find a friar yet?”
“Mercutio, shush. You’re not making this better.”
Mercutio turned his head towards Romeo. The skydancer growled.
“Tell this madman to snap out of it. He’s blinded with rage!”
“Peace Mercutio, peace!”
“Romeo-”
CHUNK
Mercutio clutched his chest, and crumpled to the ground. Tybalt shakily stood up, wielding
the blood-drenched blade.
“MERCUTIO!”
Romeo and Benvolio took off and tended to the fallen skydancer’s side. Tybalt, realization of
his actions flooding upon him, stumbled and began to run away.
“Speak Mercutio! Say something! Anything!”
Romeo ripped off his cape and laid it over his body, desperately trying to clot the wound.
Benvolio shook Mercutio’s head. Wake up!
Mercutio weakly looked into Romeo’s eyes. “Why… why did you interfere?” He coughed,
blood leaking from his mouth, the red liquid dripping down from the side of his cheek. There was a large red blot on the cape where the wound was. It kept on growing.
“Stay with us, Mercutio.” The icy skydancer shouted hopelessly into the horizon. “A
DOCTOR! WE NEED A DOCTOR! ANYONE? SOMEONE FIND A DOCTOR! A DOCTOR!”
“Romeo, it’s merely a flesh wound.” Mercutio chuckled weakly. His eyes began to dim. “But
it’s enough. If you didn’t step in, I would have had him Romeo. Do you understand?”
“I thought it was the right thing to do!”
“What is right and wrong anymore?” Mercutio glared into Romeo’s eyes. “Avenge me
Romeo. For-” He coughed again. “For the Montagues. Go Romeo. Go.”
“I- I understand.” Romeo pushed himself up. In the distance, Tybalt limped away, one wing
hanging loosely from his side.
“I understand Tybalt.” The skydancer roared, and whipped out his blade. The rapier almost
seemed glowed red in the sunlight. He launched himself into the air, and lunged forward, wings beating faster than ever before.
“I understand.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“Don’t you do that ever again, you idiot.” Mercutio turned towards Benvolio. The coatl
covered him with his wing, and drew Mercutio close, hugging him in fierce love.

“Don’t talk. You’ll only waste your energy. Rest Mercutio, help will come, I assure you. It must
come!”

Another cough. “Benvolio, promise me one thing. Just one.”

A tear dripped down the coatl’s cheek. “Yes Mercutio. I promise.”

“Never give up your life out of shame. You won’t solve anything. You might have saved
yourself, but it’s still there, lingering around in the hearts of others. Stop wallowing in guilt and move on. Deal with the problem, don’t run away from it. Promise me this Benvolio.” Mercutio coughed again, spurting blood. “Hold on to it. Never forget.”

“I promise Mercutio. I promise. Hold on Mercutio. Hold on!”

Mercutio shook his head. “Then I can rest in peace.” The joker smiled one final time, and
closed his eyes.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“TYBALT!”
The wounded skydancer showed no response. He kept on running and stumbling.
“TYBALT, ANSWER ME YOU MONSTER! ANSWER ME!”
Romeo slammed down infront of him. Tybalt’s eyes flashed wildly. He laughed.
“I- I killed him Romeo. I killed him. I killed him!” He crackled with insanity. “Now… now don’t
let me kill you too!” The skydancer fumbled with the sword in his hand.
Romeo screamed. He slammed the skydancer in the chest, sending him flying with his tail.
The Capulet provided no resistance.
The Montague charged forward, gripped the Capulet, and took off flying into the sky. He beat
him, dealing blow after blow, bruise after bruise. The skydancer didn’t retaliate. The madman just laughed.
The Montague then dove down towards the ground, the Capulet in his clutches. At the
closest possible distance, he slammed the masked skydancer into the Earth. The sounds of bones crunching filled the air.
Romeo flew to a nearby cliff face, and launched himself off the mountain. Down below, the
skydancer weakly tried to push himself off the ground. He fell, and tried again, coughing violently in the grass. The Montague raised his glowing rapier, prepared to deal the killing blow.
“ENAMOR! NOW!”
A bright light blasted in his face. Startled and blinded, Romeo tried to fly away, but before he
could do so someone tackled him from the side. They smashed into the dirt, sending leaves and soil flying through the air.
When the dust cleared, Romeo opened his eyes. Deathseed stood upon him with his glowing
green claw aimed at his neck.
“I wouldn’t move if I were you.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Looking up, Romeo saw Stormtalon, Diana, and Godspeed descend from the sky. Behind
them, Benvolio looked at him in the eyes, his expression filled with concern.

Diana rushed towards Tybalt, who had collapsed on the ground. She set her hand on his
chest, and green mist glowed around the skydancer.

“That was all my breath Stormtalon. I can’t cast another healing aid, but it should be enough.
He’ll live, barely.”

Stormtalon turned to Godspeed. “Find Serenity.”

In a gust of air, the imperial was gone, heading straight for the arcane clan.

The matriarch then turned to Romeo. “Keep him pinned Deathseed.” She glared into the
skydancer’s eyes. “If it wasn’t for Benvolio, he would have been banished. Explain, Romeo, and prove to me that what your friend was telling the truth.”

And so he did.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Behind their backs, Benvolio rushed towards where Mercutio had fallen. To his surprise, the
body was nowhere to be found. He took off into the sky, circling the plains. Where could his friend be? A monster had taken him? The beastclans? He flew back down and investigated the spot. The coatl then reached down, and picked up a violet flower, and some purple butterfly feathers. Realization dawning on him, he remembered seeing them at the party, worn by a particular skydancer, known particularly for her arts of healing. So, ignoring the commotion behind him, the coatl took off into the sky abandoning the scene, seeking his lost friend.
