Fun fact; Florin's name apparently means gulden or guilder in Romanian. I didn't know that and she came prenamed, but it's oddly fitting considering my plans for her.

You might pronounce her name Floh-rin, but I pronounce it Floo-reen. To each their own, though. Moodboard ideas: Crashing, turquoise waves, a pirate ship with the sun behind it (adventure-positive feel), a pile of shimmering gold coins, a bandana and a cutlass, a turquoise (gemstone) with golden veins, a harbor city, a female figure (few/no details, blue clothing or silhouetted) with a yellow-golden halo (solemn, sacred feel), a pair of golden scales, preferably with some light or stuff that looks like golden Light magic behind/around it. Totally her theme: boop
For Florin and Ascidian. The breath they share refers to a magical bubble Ascidian gifts Florin, for if she ever needs his help again to survive drowning, but he isn't around.
"And the tide it takes me away from you, and it brings me back again" Florin's sailing duties and passions and journeys, and how she and Ascidian are apart for long periods of time, maybe because Ascidian cannot go back to the sea for fear of being found and reclaimed by his former clan, which essentially held him captive as a flightless prince (Butterfly)?
"Between the devil and the deep blue sea" refers to Florin's 'sinful' (former?) activity of piracy.
Her being pulled down is her going for a voyage the first time after all the responsibilities of light's championship finally let up somewhat, and when she crashes and shipwrecks, the new golden crystal that is part of her pulls her downward, it's not like it's ever been heavy before but it seems to be attracted by something on the bottom of the sea... (tidelord. missing. ancient breed, she transformed into one while down there? Is being pulled down because the golden gem-like material that is suffused with the primordial light magic she received from the Pillar spirit is where the Pillar spirit houses now... and it knows why she originally came to the Pillar slab (see further down below), and wanted to grant her her wish, after she had done it and its flight and goddess a huge favour by accepting the new duty she'd never really wanted and defeating the emperor when it rose in Hewn City.)
"Stolen from another life" Ascidian was; he stole himself by freeing himself - or maybe the cataclysmic storm that silenced the Tidelord freed him.
Maybe her transforming into an ancient is revealed to be the reason the spirit of the quasi-sentient primordial light magic of the pillar slab chose her. And maybe Ascidian and his siblings are descendants of a particular kind of ancient, their flightless wings reminiscent of theirs, and he'll rediscover his ancestor's nature (potentially without transforming himself, but studying them, using Florin the ancient's help as a bodyguard, first-hand-example witness and negotiator between him and ancients.

reason for her going to the pillar slab isn't because Horizon hired her, it's because she wanted to try and use the primordial light magic (magic of KNOWING) to find her former crewmate; someone who meant a lot to her; a mentor and parental figure, who had gone missing during the storm in which Tidelord vanished. She knew they were alive, due to a minor enchanted trinket they both owned, but nothing beyond that. They could be trapped at the bottom of the ocean, or anywhere else in Sornieth - and all other diviner mages needed some sort of physical possession or body part, a connection to the creature they ought to scry on, so she couldn't rely on them for help... that otherwise covetous and avaricious dragon had, that one time, actually gifted her the trinket through which both knew the other was alive, so, in a cruel twist of fate's irony, it couldn't be used because it now belonged to Florin instead.

Why find specifically this dragon? They had helped Florin survive when she had first joined a pirate crew. They'd help her adjust to the life on a ship of plunder, taught her to fight and how to earn a share of the loot because of which she'd signed up in the first place (when she was a street kid in Mirrorlight Harbour, wanting both money, adventure, and the off chance that she'd find her parents whom she dimly remembered had a lot of treasure she used to play with as a hatchling, before she fell overboard and almost drowned), and turned into a parental figure. And with Florin's old friends, besides maybe Ascidian, having turned their backs to her because she effectively deserted and accepted the duty of light's champion that was thrust upon her unexpectedly as she'd come into contact with the light pillar slab, this dragon is the only one who knew her in her past life, and doesn't judge her for it - her new friends on dry land consider Florin's pirating past a crime and a sin, and don't understand how she could ever do that.
This dragon and partially Ascidian are the only dragons in the world who understand her, understand her reasoning and how she changed, and are the only dragons she can truly open up to, without any need for masquerade.

Maybe Ascidian isn't 100% accepting either, and she met him before she quit piracy, and he played a role in encouraging her to do so, opening her eyes somewhat with his more gentle nature, in a sort of gender-reversed siren-and-the-sailor story.

timeline issue. what happened to make her quit piracy? Probably the same storm that silenced Tidelord and made her mentor go missing. But while exhausting all other options of finding them, she wouldn't feel as judged and alone as she would /after/ being named champion, so the motivation for finding them wouldn't be strong enough to make her risk sneaking into the heart of Sunbeam Ruins and interact with the most sacred object of her entire flight.

Ignore the lore, it's a work in progress.

Despite her appereance, Florin isn't actually a dragon, but instead a member of a very rare subspecies of dragon known as the Leviathan. Hatched from a stolen egg and raised in a Maren school, the turquoise serpent was always meant to be a mount to the Maren, useful in battle, hunt and travel. However, Florin turned out to be an especially wild serpent with a free spirit, and after many unsuccessful attempts to harness and train her, she was brought to a secret cove unknown to dragonkind, where the last wild Leviathan had their hideout. The Maren hoped to one day be able to at least utilize her offspring, if not the unruly female herself. But they'd underestimated the close-knit community formed within the cove, and how hostile they were towards outsiders. As soon as Florin had swam inside, she barely got a chance to look around curiously and blink twice, before the guards had descended onto her head. Much like common animals, Leviathans don't take kindly to anyone outside their pack, and see them as a competitor wanting to steal their food, territory and mates. Unsurprisingly, Florin was forced to flee, with a decent number of scratches and bite wounds. She would've probably bled out, or been found by a shark, if it weren't for one of the Maren. This rather young male had always adored her for her unique, self-thinking attitude, and he was one of the only ones reluctant to send her away, arguing that she was old enough to be seen as a rival by the wild colony. He'd then lagged behind the other Maren, just in case - and it was good that he did. But he barely managed to calm Florin long enough to apply the medicine, before she bolted. During the healing process, which had thankfully been initiated by the Maren's medicine, Florin traveled all around the world's oceans. Down to the deepest dephts she could stand the pressure of, winding through coral reefs brighter than a bird of paradise, hiding in a forest of seaweed, waiting for any unsuspecting fish to come by. She even visited the ocean near the Frigid Floes, but the cold seeped into her scales, making her extremely uncomfortable, especially because the former wounds had now scarred, leaving some parts of her skin exposed and without scales. Determined to fix this vulnerability of hers, Florin turned around, towards an underwater graveyard she'd found a while ago. It consisted of dragons surprised by the Twisting Crescendo, being whirled around and around into oblivion, and finally drowned. Some of them were carrying precious metals, others rusty pieces of armour, but since Florin had always been quite vain, she chose the roughly scale-shaped gold nuggets. Utilizing a volcanic vent at the bottom of the sea to melt the bottom side of them, and to attach them to her scales, she managed to cover up all of her weak spots. Afterwards, she continued to travel to nowhere, searching for nothing but her next meal and an environment that pleased her. Until, one day, she came accross a little Fae aimlessly drifting accross the sea.

Will continue later.

Personality snippets:
Adventurous, easily excitable, tends to overestimate herself, optimist, loves shiny and beautiful things, but isn't afraid to make herself dirty to help her friends and clan, especially Ascidian, her mate. Isn't the most social, due to having grown up alone with a Maren school which thought she was a leviathan they could attempt to tame (she kind of is, but also a Light Spiral, it's complicated), and prefers to explore hidden ocean monuments and artifacts on her own, or with Ascidian. Is very curious, and has, just like her mate, a strong sense of justice, although she accepts the circle of life as it is, and knows the ocean to be a merciless place.

Used to think of herself as nothing but a common leviathan, far below other dragons, it took a lot of mutual encouraging with Ascidian to lift her self-esteem. Her magic is connected to the crystals/gold/gems on her scales; she can make them glow in any intensity she'd like,a s well as change their shape to be pointy spikes useful in melee combat, or even thin them to sleek spines and curve those in a way that they can be used to imprison prey or safely transport items too important to store in regular satchels, as those could rip open and spill the goods, or be snatched away from the carrier by aerial pirates at any moment. She is very adept at controlling her crystalline spines, and over time, has become the one to come to if a member of the clan or the surrounding land has a precious item they need to have delivered somewhere. With her mate and best friend Ascidian always riding right behind her horns, they are an inseperable duo that generates the income they are so fond of (and need to fund Ascidian's revolutionary fantasies) by safekeeping and delivering the goods of others.

She did not have her oh-so-characteristic gembond until she was a few years old, as it had only started to grow after her being exposed to the radiance of the Sunbeam Ruins, when she swam in the waters below the Beacon of the Radiant Eye. Not having been touched by any kind of magic before then, except for the water granting her the ability to breathe in it, the Spiral's element was decided to be Light at that very moment. She has a very unique ability, and perhaps she was the reason why Lightweaver always let her gaze rest on the waves, waiting for dragons who travel accross?

Fanned Cockroach
She's adventurous, daring, a treasure hunter and a mischief-maker. Loyal, protective and excitable, but also somewhat greedy and too nosy for her own good. Curiosity and lust for exploration drive her, she believes that if you want something you need to reach for the stars, chase your dreams, don't let anyone talk you out of it, and she can be quite stubborn as well. Often she's flirty and sociable, but it takes a long time to truly get to know her, and she usually leaves a flüchtige acquaintance behind again at a moment's notice without thinking much about it, she doesn't leave her heart with people easily, and tells herself she's used to being alone - which she is, but that doesn't mean she isn't lonely more often than she'd like. She's blunt and courageous, but it has taken a while for her to get accustomed to the fact that being a coward is not an option when you've got a family to defend, something worthy to fight for that is more than her own life. She stumbled into championhood without being aware of it, her own insatiable curiosity drove her to throw her already meager caution to the wind and sneak into the hallowed room where the fragments of the Pillar of Light were kept, and, well, the ancient magic was seeking a dragon to bind itself to and found her. She's still coming to terms with this responsibility, though she's joked about her newfound powers and potential quite a lot with her family and friends; banter, playful braggadocio and levity is her way of dealing with heavy subjects. She loves the playful arguments she and her mate Ascidian get into on a daily basis, and is quite witty and wortgewandt. She's also impulsive and acts before she thinks, which can become quite a problem sometimes. She knows the oceans inside-out, as she's lived in them for many years, and is quite souverän and almost careless, because she believes she can deal with anything that she'd find down there, because she's so experienced - and partially she's right, and it surprises her companions time and time again, but one time her complacency was the reason things almost went bad, and only quick thinking and a heroic action on her part (which she got injured during) saved the scouting party from imminent painful death. She's very big for a Spiral, almost the size of a Coatl, and sticks out among groups of her breed like a sore thumb. It may be because of this that she's always preferred company of other breeds, because they're different from her anyway, and she doesn't feel like she somehow doesn't belong with them, like she does with other Spirals. She doesn't really consider herself a true Spiral, to be honest, and feels somewhat out of place whenever dragons get different services or prices depending on breed, and it makes her feel awkward and torn which category she belongs in.

She hatched on the pirate ship where her parents were the captain and the First Mate, respectively. As a hatchling, she was even more nosy than now and didn't know a sliver of caution. When the ship was suddenly attacked by a rivaling pirate crew, she had been playing make-believe battle on the deck, and with nowhere to run or hide she leapt overboard, intending to cling onto a rope or something and climb back up when it was safe, but she'd overestimated her own strength and the waves swept her away, until her parent's ship disappeared behind the horizon. To this day she has no idea if they won or lost, or if they are even still alive. Luckily she was born a Water dragon, so she could breathe underwater, but flight was something she hadn't learnt yet and her navigational skills were utter garbage at the time, so she had no idea where they'd gotten attacked. She was sure her parents would look for her and find her, but as time went by and she was still adrift out on the open sea, her confidence began to waver. Surely they loved her enough to look for her, right? Right? But nobody came. And she had to find a way to survive on her own. With her schnellen Auffassungsgabe and natural cleverness and tenacity, she would. But it was a lonely existance, wondering whether her parents had just abandoned her to be devoured by the waves because they didn't love her, because her constant Eskapaden in search of something new and interesting had gotten on their nerves too much...

Fishing Net
Pathfinder's Quiver

Ascidian's got that kämpferisch Personality, that unbridled, fierce determination/ambition/defiance, a strong sense for justice and equality, and a flaring temper whenever he feels he is being excluded or looked down on because of his size or other disadvantages he cannot control. He can talk himself into a rage, is quite eloquent but also gestures a lot
