Infiltrator | Personnel | The Eleven
Such surprise. Did you not see me coming?
Familiar |
Eidolon True to her Shadow roots Dryoza serves Outfit Vector as the primary spy and infiltrator. Using her skills and dark coloring to slip past clan defenses', she brings back intel used in trade negotiations and the infrequent skirmishes that are an ever-present part of Plague life. Since Outfit Vector's dealings are mainly above board her services are not required often. But in a clan whose motto translates to 'ends justify the means,' she is an invaluable asset that the Outfit could not do without. For her part, Dryoza is happy to have found a clan tolerant of her singular predilections. Like most of those who have found their way beneath Shiv's wing, Dryoza is not much of a socializer. She has time for two dragons, Quizu, her Kept and primary assistant, and Lazari, a null mage that supplies her with the liquid magic that allows her to slip through arcane wards without being detected. The magic itself is one of his specialities: a black, viscous fluid that coats Dryoza like sap. He has offered on more than one occasion to concoct something less oozing and sticky, but Dryoza seems to appreciate the aesthetics of it almost more than its effects. Her relationship with Quizu is strictly one of master and servant. Quizu is careful to remain subservient at all times, since Dryoza's displeasure might cost her the place of her shade-touched mate, Qyire, in the clan. Both owe their membership to Dryoza's patronage, and that extends only as far as their continued use to her. Dryoza is a moody and demanding master, with none of the perverse humor Shadow dragons are known for, but at least she is never cruel. Finish a task and finish it efficiently and you are sure to gain her approval. |
History
Dryoza's beginnings were as mundane and as extraordinary as any young hatchling's born into the faerie-lit realm of the Shadowbinder. Her parents were natives of the Wispwillow Grove and shared the capriciousness that its denizens were known for. Neither were what one would call 'parental', but good parenting is not what young shadow dragons typically require. Her mother was a trickster extraordinaire, her father an expert at shadow games, and her siblings took after them like fish to water. All except for Dryoza.
Called Flicker then, she was serious where her mother was easygoing and uninterested in her father's games. The only trait she shared with her kindred was an obsessive desire to win at all costs, whether that be in silly hatchling rivalries or in the more serious contests of strength and intellect between dragons of the clan. Of far more concern than this, however, was her fixation with decay.
It was a trait never heard of in a shadow dragon. She would spend countless hours in the mushroom gardens, watching the garden-feed rot. Before family meals she would secret away parts of the daily kill and keep the bone and flesh until her parents were finally alerted by the smell. Oftentimes she was found with blood or other fluids painted on her hide, or the mulch of decayed plants dangling from her crest. Her parents grew concerned, and then alarmed, but nothing they said seemed to reach her.
It was a foregone conclusion that she would leave her home behind. She felt no connection to the place of her birth or to the dragons that raised her. Instead she turned toward a land known for its pestilence and decay, the Plaguebringer's Plague Lands, where she hoped to find dragons that would tolerate her tastes, perhaps even share them. Her journey to Outfit Vector had begun.

Dyroza What would you do if Quizu ever stepped out of line?
Dryoza narrows her eyes, her heat pits flaring in indignation at the thought of such a thing. "My Kept knows her place and is grateful for it. A rebuke of that kind would never be necessary." For a moment it seems that's all she has to say on the matter, but finally she relents, "But if she were to displease me she would see how much she preferred mucking out the familiar pens and scraping the ooze out of the alchemists' cauldrons. There is no shortage of jobs to be done and Quizu would learn that working for me is far from the most unpleasant."
