Skald claims not to be born in the Southern Icefield, but a cold harsh land far away to the north. He lived there a traveller, wandering from settlement to settlement and offered work in exchange for food and a warm bed. Sometimes he ended up helping out in a mine or on a farm, but mostly he tracked down thiefs and bandits for the people to retrieve valuables they had stolen from them. Most of them payed him enough gold to rent a room in the local inn for some nights or showed him some new fighting techniques, a few of them even offered to accompany him on his journeys. He earned additional gold collecting bounties and made small profits by gathering and selling the bandits' weapons and armor after he had cleared a camp. Fom time to time he ventured in ancient ruins to search for long forgotten treasures. Skald loved being an adventurer as much as he loved to relax in a tavern after a long day, drinking mead and listening to the bard's songs. He himself was a bad singer.
He made many friends on his travels and saw even more interesting places. Only one day, things began to change. There had been an ongoing rebellion against the ruleing faction for several years which quickly escalated into a civil after the high king was murdered. Everywhere people were taking up ams and those who used to live as neighbours for all their life might become mortal enemies overnight. Skald tried to stay neutral but he still lost many of his friends, some to their ideology, some to death.

When the war started, the Wyverns started came. They were huge, bigger than any other living creature, and they could breathe fire and ice.
