Biography

There will be one tasked to set us free
He can see the things nobody else can see
Although young, he has been chosen
To thaw, a heart once thought to be frozen
And we must trust him with all our might
For he is the one who will return us to the light

~Moon's New Leader Prophecy

I am the people
I am the storm
I am the riot
I am the swarm
When the last tree's fallen
The animal can't hide
Money won't solve it
What's your alibi?

~Blood//Water By: Grandson

It happened, on a warm summer morn, that a set of Midori's eggs hatched. He had many clutches, but all had resulted in female offspring, which were unfit heirs. He had thought that one of his daughters may have to take his place, until the small soft green head broke through the shell of an egg. Yes, on that warm summer morn, Midori had his first son, and Mirai came into the world.

And with that, everything changed.

Mirai was treasured by Midori more than any dragon ever had been. He had powers, and was the perfect son, not too much like Midori, so that they wouldn't be confused for one another, but still close enough. His thin form, and sunken eyes hearkened back to the ragged looks of his father, who's shadow loomed ever so constantly above him. Yes, Mirai was the perfect son and heir. At least, he looked like the perfect heir.

As he grew older, it became glaringly obvious that Mirai wasn't all that Midori made him out to be. He could stand proud, and look strong, but when it came to speaking, his voice was quiet and soft, and his demeanor immediately changed, as he shrunk into a shell of what he was supposed to be. Even when he was given to Abraham, a wise clan member for training, Mirai was forced to deal with his father's bitter orders that soon took over Abe's life as much as they had taken over Mirai's. After years of being endlessly belittled and controlled by his father, Midori had no sense of who he really was. The weight of being told he was going to be leader from birth was crushing him, and he grew more and more insecure and anxiety-ridden by the day. So he did what any good dragon would do in the situation.

He ran away.

It was storming, as Mirai ran, through the woods, as fast as he could. He was heading to the cliffs, to cross Water territories, and reach Lightning. He had heard only good things about Lightning territories, and so he felt it was the safest place he could go for now. The rain was driving down as he flew as fast as he could, despite the fact he could barely see. A roll of thunder, crashing a little too close to his coddled ears sent Mirai careening in fear, dipping and twirling through the nasty weather. He nearly crashed in that moment, pulling up barely, before he hit the ground. Gliding mere inches from the earths surface, the soaked grass tickling his belly, Mirai kept going. He skimmed the land as close as he could, until he noticed a dragon praying dead ahead, crouched in the tall grass. Too close and going too fast, Mirai banked sideways to avoid the collision, but his right wing slammed into the ground, sending him flying into the ground in a great spray of mud and water.

Slowly, he got up, his wing in incredible pain. Ahead of him sat a Pearlcatcher, her pale blue eyes glowing in the light of the crackling electricity that spread across the sky. He was going to scream at her, he felt anger mixed with fear and pain swirling within him, as he realized his wing was most assuredly dislocated, but he said nothing. He recognized this dragon, she was from his clan. Her name was Moon, and he realized with a jolt that tonight must've been the night of the full moon. She was out on the cliffs receiving prophecies, as she did every full moon.

Abe had told him about Moon, he'd always tell Mirai that Moon had great visions of him. Abe had never permitted Mirai to actually speak with Moon, though, he always said it wasn't time. As much as Mirai loved Abe, who had been assigned to mentor him from hatching due to their similar powers, he also despised how cryptic he was sometimes. Now, however, Mirai was face to face with Moon, her talons seemingly floating over the soaked grass as she approached. Mirai rose slowly, his wing screaming with pain as he slid through the tall grass to meet her, shaking from the pain and anticipation. She eyed him slowly, and Mirai froze, shocked by her sharp blue gaze, before Moon slipped at lightning speeds through the grass and grabbing Mirai's wing in her small talons. Despite her lesser size, Moon moved with expert precision, slipping through the rain to steadily place herself in position to expertly pop Mirai's wing back into place. Screaming im pain, Mirai writhed, shaking Moon off, but she only stumbled a little, still watching Mirai with sharp eyes.

"You can't leave."

The morning after that night, Mirai was seemingly more confident, more like the leader he was supposed to be. He worked hard, and moved swiftly, greeting his clanmates and sharing his time with friends. Perhaps, he was just having a good day, perhaps he had changed, but the reality of the situation was very different. That night, he was to meet with Moon, Abe and Enoch to discuss the prophecies that were all coming to a head, that he played a key role in. He was excited, to finally know what his purpose was, and who he was meant to be, but he couldn't have expected what came next.

The time came, and on the very borders of the territory, along Abraham's river limits, the four dragons gathered. It was dark, and the forest loomed around the group, eerily quiet. The quiet between them seemed to last forever, until Moon spoke. She told them of how Singed, one of the eldest and bravest dragons in the clan, was to take over. Him knowing this, however, could change the course of everything, and so this was to be a secret between all of them. Mirai was ecstatic, he wasn't going to be leader, he could finally live his own life. His relief was short lived, however, as Moon continued. Each of the four dragons there that night also held a role, Enoch was the informer, spreading the tales of the fear within their clan far and wide. Moon was the prophet, telling of what was to come and who was to lead the charge. Abe was the mentor, training the savior of the clan until the very end.

Mirai was the savior of the clan.

He was destined to kill his father.

The days continued on slowly, Mirai back to his old self, a shadow of a dragon, cowering from anyone and anything. Life continued on as normal, but deep within, Mirai knew what came next. At some point during this time, he was introduced to Kireina. The other Imperial was beautiful and kind and oh-so-smart. Mirai felt comfort in the deep conversations they had together, and he felt some relief for once in his life, when it was announced their marriage was being arranged by Midori. Even though Kireina spent all her time following Midori around, she found no resentment to the high family, and was pleased to join. The only problem, was that Midori never left them be. He constantly heckled them about grandchildren, all of which were seemingly dead nests, and it left the couple in shambles.

What Midori didn't realize, and Kireina didn't know, was that Mirai was smuggling the hatchlings off. Anywhere, and everywhere, he dropped them off, hoping they would live. Many ended up in the clan he knew he could trust most, the clan of darkened winds. There, he told the leader, Shiveer to never speak to them of their families, they were merely dropped off as orphans. His children were safe, and even if it destroyed his family, he would always make sure they were safe.

Times haven't changed much, for poor Mirai, he still lives in the shadow of his destiny, and the constant threat of his father looms over him and the rest of the clan. He still hasn't succeeded in having a fruitful nest with his mate, and he speaks with Abe about 'training' almost daily. He's still the same meek dragon he's always been, and yet beneath all the fear and insecurity, there lies a dormant volcano, ready to break free when the time comes, revealing the bravery of a true hero.

Or so we hope.

In the heart of the sea, it was said that I was born with the desert’s soul - o, to mourn the rise of the sun! At the left-hand seat of the table, I sit and watch them, the pretenders with broken souls, the wolves with bloody teeth - and there he is, that ill-crowned king, reclining and watchful, assured in his power. With every blade plunged into my breast, a piece of the silver I scratch away - once, twice, thrice ‘gainst the grain of the clock - and ‘ware, all you gathered here, for pressure turns us all to diamond dust, and even the dustiest forge may produce the sword that kills our king.

Touch my mouth
And hold my tongue
I'll never be your chosen one
I'll be home, safely tucked away
You can't tempt me if I don't see the day
The pull on my flesh is just too strong
It stifles the choice and the air in my lungs
Better not to breathe than to breathe a lie
When I open my body and breathe alive
I will not speak of your sin
There was no way out for him
The mirror shows not
Your values are all shot
